The role As the Director Worksafe Mines Safety, you will lead and direct the WorkSafe Mines Safety Directorate, which will include the implementation of a best-practice risk-based compliance program to the mineral exploration and mining industry.
You will provide the WorkSafe Commissioner and Executive Leadership Group with advice on the operations of the directorate, whilst providing professional leadership to the directorate through actively promoting strategies, policies and systems that contribute to the strategic direction.
Your extensive knowledge and experience in leading mining or inspectorate operations, with the proven ability to deliver results, experience with work health and safety in the exploration, mining, extraction, or mineral processing sectors and experience applying work health and safety laws will be the key to your success in this role. This role is also responsible for leading a team of eight direct reports, therefore your ability to motivate others to achieve agreed performance outcomes will also be key to your success.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

Extensive knowledge of and experience in leading mining operations or inspectorate operations at a senior level, with proven ability to take responsibility, promote accountability and motivate others to achieve agreed performance outcomes and cultural change. Extensive knowledge and experience in relation to work health and safety in one or more of the exploration, mining, extraction or mineral processing sectors. Please note that a Bachelor degree or higher qualification in engineering or science relevant to the role is a mandatory requirement.
