We are creating our climate-ready and water-secure city.Through policies, programs and active engagement with the community, we seek to reduce carbon emissions, reduce energy use, support renewable energy, promote environmentally sound transport choices, reduce waste and improve its management, improve information on climate change and increase resilience to our changing climate.
These activities occur in sectors including government, non-government, business, community, and households, contributing to Canberra's growth as a dynamic, sustainable and prosperous city.The Water Policy Section in the Office of Water is responsible for the development and coordinated implementation of ACT water policies and strategies.
The Section is involved in national, regional and ACT water policy and programs, including the National Water Initiative, the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, The ACT Water Resources Act (2007), The Planning Act (2023), the ACT Water Strategy, and the ACT and Region Catchment Strategy.
In performing these functions, it liaises with Icon Water and key ACT agencies, the Commonwealth Government, community and regional stakeholders.
The section is responsible for a variety of the Directorate's statutory reporting requirements on water management reforms, actions and outcomes.
The Section provides secretarial support to the ACT and Region Catchment Management Coordination Group and supports the Directorate's engagement in inter-jurisdictional fora.This process may be used to create a merit list to temporarily or permanently fill other Director positions within the Programs Delivery Branch over the next twelve months.We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community.
