In Remediation Policy, you will work to environmentally rehabilitate historically significant uranium and nuclear sites.
In doing so, you will be able to see direct, tangible benefits on the ground and help further reconciliation with First Nations in a practical, locally-based way.The team supports delivery of rehabilitation activities across three key work streams:Maintaining and monitoring the formerAdministering aManaging the policy and regulatory framework for theThe team is responsible for policy advice and project management of activities to rehabilitate lands where the Government has some responsibility due to its past actions.The opportunityWe are offering 2 Manager policy and project roles (EL2) in the Remediation Policy team to lead on delivery of remediation activities for the former nuclear test site of Maralinga, the former Rum Jungle Uranium and Copper Mine, and Ranger Uranium Mine.The roles on offer are positions of leadership and you will direct and manage staff and engage with stakeholders located across Australia, including in very remote areas.What's in it for you?While you will lead the team to oversee, manage and deliver rehabilitation activities in significant places of Australia, we want to invest and help you in your ambitions.

The opportunity to gain acting experience at the SESB1 level can also be provided for the right candidates.Our ideal candidateWe are looking for motivated, highly curious self-starters.EL2 Candidates Must:Have tertiary qualifications in law, science, economics, engineering, environmental management, project management, finance, or planning (town, land or water) or a relevant field.Have experience managing teams and complex stakeholder networks.Be able to manage complex workloads and diverse stakeholders with reasonable autonomy and accountability.Desirable Experience, Skills And CapabilitiesSuccessful applicants will have demonstrated experience, skills and capabilities in some (or all) of the following:Leading development and review of written documentation, with attention to accuracy and detail.Complex project management including a demonstrated ability to think creatively and with an outcomes-mindset.Managing high figure/complex budgets and expenditure - including undertaking budget and financial processes.Managing risk.Leading development of research and analysis of policy, program, legislative and data issues to assist with preparing policy and/or program advice for senior executive, a Board or Committee and the Minister.Interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including with Aboriginal people.Leading a team and working as part of an executive team, including the ability to manage workflow and staff, and produce high quality work to deadlines with significant uncertainty.A commitment to continuous improvement and a demonstrated ability to implement and respond positively to change.Critical thinking skills to direct interpreting, understanding and drafting legislative instruments and regulatory frameworks.Coordination activities across large public and private organisations.Conducting horizon scanning, escalating emerging risks and finding solutions to ensure delivery of high-quality outputs and/or on time delivery.Coaching, managing and upskilling staff.Please note: It is not necessary to have previously worked for government, we encourage people from all backgrounds and experiences to apply.What You Will DoYou will lead in the development of policy advice and project management delivering rehabilitation activities across one or more of the key workstreams (Maralinga, Rum Jungle and/or Ranger Uranium Mine).This will include tasks such as (but not exclusive to):Delivering policy advice for senior executive and the Government.Project management - including (but not exclusive to) financial, risk, environmental, legal managementStaff management.Delivering budgeting and funding proposals, creating negotiating mandates.Undertaking procurements and managing contracts.Engaging with and supporting positive stakeholder relationships.Leading and managing governance and secretariat functions and records management.EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
