About the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission:

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission (the Commission) is a regulator established on 1 July 2018 as an independent agency under section 181A of the

National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013

(the NDIS Act) to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services.
The Commission is the dedicated national regulator of NDIS service providers in Australia.

As a result of a significant increase in funding from the Government in 2023, the Commission has more than doubled its number of staff in the last 12 months.
The Commission is now in the process of embedding its systems and processes, and maturing its operations to becoming an effective, approachable and transparent regulator.

Key Duties:

We are looking for an exceptional leader to lead the Administrative Review and Governance team as Director.
The role of Director, Administrative Review and Governance is a busy and fast-paced role.
The work is interesting, challenging and rewarding.

Providing expert advice on, and personally dealing with, complex or escalated matters;

Making some decisions as an authorised officer under the FOI Act and as a delegate of the Commissioner under the NDIS Act;

Driving the workplace and service culture of the Internal Integrity Unit and the Legal Services & Internal Integrity Division;

Ensuring stakeholder expectations are managed and met, building strong relationships with stakeholders within and external to the NDIS Commission;

Ensuring all statutory and internal timeframes are complied with;

Assessing and leading continuous improvement initiatives in relation to the functions, team, Division and across the Commission;

Supervising, coaching and mentoring staff, including by identifying and addressing aspects of their knowledge, skills or performance that may need to be developed;

Leading the reporting and development of awareness-raising and capability-building programs for the Internal Integrity Unit's functions;

Representing the Internal Integrity Unit and the Legal Services & Internal Integrity Division in meetings with internal and external stakeholders;

Preparing high-quality reports, briefing papers and correspondence for the Minister, the Commissioner, and the Commission's Senior Executive.

Demonstrated sound technical skills and experience in administrative decision making, the FOI Act, the Privacy Act, and the general legislative framework that governs all Commonwealth agencies;

Demonstrated capability to lead a team, and to coach, mentor, nurture, and support staff to elicit high performance and manage underperformance;

Strong track record in delivering, and leading the delivery of, high-quality, consistent, and timely services in a fast-paced, constantly evolving and complex environment;

Demonstrated high emotional intelligence and excellent people skills;

High order communication skills (oral and written);

High ethical standards and a high standard of professional and personal integrity;

Creative thinker with the ability to drive continuous improvement in the Internal Integrity Unit's processes, policies and practices;

Strong attention to detail and the ability to analyse information critically and objectively;

Experience in handling sensitive or confidential information.

Minimum Requirements:

Tertiary legal qualifications or other tertiary qualifications related to the role;

At least 5 years' experience working in the areas of administrative law, administrative reviews or administrative decision-making;

At least 8 years' experience leading diverse teams or leading projects involving a broad range of stakeholders.

NDIS employees are required to be Australian Citizens.
