Electoral and Superannuation Policy Branch provides policy advice and oversees the legislation and governance of Australia's electoral and referendum frameworks and Commonwealth superannuation arrangements.

Our key areas of work include:
Electoral and referendum policy and legislation: ensuring every Australian's vote counts and electoral laws remain robust and fair. Superannuation policy and legislation: overseeing the superannuation and retirement schemes for Commonwealth employees, from the Australian Public Service to federal judges, ensuring they are supported in their post-service life. Direct impact: Administering pension payments to over 650 members, our branch directly enhances the lives of those who have served our nation, including former Governors-General, judges and parliamentarians. Portfolio oversight: Our expertise guides the Australian Electoral Commission and the Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation, influencing outcomes through policy advice to Government and oversight of key legislation. ABOUT THE TEAM

The Parliamentary and Judicial Schemes Team provides policy advice and oversees the operation and delivery of the following Acts:
Parliamentary Contributory Superannuation Act 1948 Parliamentary Superannuation Act 2004 Judges' Pensions Act 1968 Relevant sections of the Governor-General Act 1974 and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Act 2021 This includes maintaining legislative oversight and direct delivery of four defined benefit superannuation schemes: the Parliamentary Contributory Superannuation Scheme (PCSS), Judges' Scheme, the Governors-General Scheme and the Division 2 Judges of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia Death and Disability scheme.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Director reports directly to the Assistant Secretary of Electoral and Superannuation Policy Branch.

As the successful candidate, you will lead a small, specialised team that provides high quality policy and legislative advice, supports and administers the legislative and regulatory framework with regards to Commonwealth Parliamentary, Judicial and Governors-General Superannuation, and directly administers multiple defined benefits superannuation funds for former Parliamentarians, Federal Judges and Governors-General.
You will regularly engage across the Department, as well as with other government entities and regulators, and support a wide variety of high-profile members.
The Director of Judicial and Parliamentary Schemes is a unique position that, by necessity, transgresses the gap between legislation, policy and operational responsibilities.
The functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
Leading the team administering specific defined benefits superannuation schemes, with a strong focus on promoting innovation and business improvement processes while ensuring high levels of accuracy, governance and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements. Providing advice on policy and legislation to senior managers, the Finance Minister and the relevant schemes trustees. Responding to and managing sensitive queries. Undertaking the role of Anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AMLCTF) compliance officer for the ongoing operation of the schemes under administration. Proactive engagement with relevant stakeholders including the external IT vendor to ensure continual efficient operation of the superannuation management system.
