About the teamWe are Australia's trade remedies authority - the Anti-Dumping Commission. The commission is responsible for undertaking investigations into allegations of unfair international trade practices involving goods entering Australia and administering Australia's anti-dumping legislation. About the branch

The commission's Strategy and Legal Branch is responsible for providing critical advisory and strategic support to the commission, to enable the efficient and effective conduct of investigations case work.

The Branch currently delivers:

Domestic and international stakeholder engagement

Data management and analysis

Governance and performance reporting

Advisory support to Australian businesses

Practice improvement design and implementation

Specialist recruitment, training and development

Corporate and business services, and

Legal advice and dispute settlement representation.

The opportunityThe Strategy and Operations Branch works closely with the commission's Investigations and Legal Branches to deliver core enabling and support services to the commission's investigative role.

In leading the Operational Policy and Practice team, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-priority outstanding operational policy and practice changes to support case work and regulatory balance. A commitment to collaboration and interest in developing and maintaining a strong understanding of investigations practices is critical to success.

Our ideal candidateThe Strategy and Legal Branch works closely with the commission's Investigations Branch to deliver core enabling and support services to the commission's investigative role including developing and updating the commission's policy and practice guidance, supporting areas of specialist learning and development, managing bulk recruitment, as well as leading the commission's outreach and engagement, continuous improvement, and regulatory performance reporting agendas.

In leading the Operational Policy and Practice team, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-priority outstanding operational policy and practice changes to support case work and regulatory balance. A commitment to collaboration and interest in maintaining a strong understanding of investigations practices is critical to success.

As the Director of the Operational Policy and Practice section, you will be responsible for a high-performing team who produces core policy and practice material to support the investigative functions of the Commission.

You will also display:

Strong leadership skills and experience driving change, building strong teams and collaborating with technical experts.

Strong project management skills, including using systems to manage workflow and risk.

Strategic thinking to prioritise competing demands and solve complex problems.

Advanced stakeholder engagement skills with experience communicating influentially to achieve favourable outcomes.

An understanding of Australia's trade remedies framework, or capacity to acquire it quickly.

You will be supported by a comprehensive training and induction program to help ensure you succeed in the role.

What you will doAs the Director of the Operational Policy and Practice section, you will be responsible for a high-performing team who produces core policy and practice material used by commission staff to undertake their investigations.

This position involves:

Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus and drive policy and practice initiatives.

Ensuring that our policies (internal and external), practice guidance and templates support high-quality, efficient and best practice decision-making.

Developing policy and practice guidance that appropriately manages risk and minimises regulatory burden for users of the anti-dumping system.

Providing advice to government stakeholders on anti-dumping policy or practice matters as needed based on the technical and administrative expertise and functions of the commission.

EligibilityTo be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

NotesThis is a permanent, ongoing position.
