Primary Objective: The Director leads and manages the Office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) / Commissioner, provides strategic advice and support to the Commissioner/CEO, and drives initiatives, strategies, and projects to directly support the CEO/Commissioner.
The Director operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and may require out-of-hours work and travel.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Lead and manage a team to deliver high-quality executive support and expert advice to the Commissioner/CEO, including the planning, coordination, and delivery of briefings on operational, policy, media, legislative, and stakeholder issues.
Lead a team providing Secretariat and government relations support to the department's Executive Management Group and support the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners during Ministerial and/or Cabinet related meetings as required.
Build and maintain high-level collaborative networks and relationships with senior departmental, ministerial, other government staff, and external stakeholders, drawing on these relationships to facilitate outcomes, including overseeing stakeholder requests, Freedom of Information requests, and complaint management processes.
Research, analyze, prepare, and quality assure correspondence, presentations, reports, and ministerial submissions for the CEO/Commissioner and maintain oversight of all Ministerial and Cabinet correspondence prepared by the Department.
Represent the CEO/Commissioner in internal and external forums as required.
Selection Criteria: Essential: Highly developed leadership and management skills, ability to effectively negotiate issues of performance and service delivery, and the ability to work in partnerships to achieve and drive outcomes to meet corporate objectives.
Superior interpersonal skills, including communicating with influence at senior levels, and the ability to negotiate successful outcomes across a range of audiences and diverse stakeholders on complex and sensitive issues.
A demonstrated record of building effective and high-level networks and relationships with senior officials and government stakeholders, with success in leveraging these relationships to facilitate solutions in a complex, multidisciplinary organization.
Demonstrated superior levels of integrity, judgment, acumen, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to deal appropriately with matters of a highly sensitive or confidential nature.
Superior organizational skills, including the ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and manage competing and changing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic operational environment with complex risks.
Demonstrated capability to work closely with senior executives to deliver on an agency's strategy and operational objectives.
Desirable: Extensive knowledge of government processes.
Tertiary studies in a relevant field.
Strong experience and knowledge of the criminal justice system in the Northern Territory, and the role of Corrections.
