The Role
The Director of Engineering is a proactive, self-starting leader of leaders working across multiple software engineering teams based in Australia. With a proven track record of leading engineering teams to achieve outstanding results in a B2B SAAS environment you will be a champion for building the right thing and building it right.
An integral part of our Engineering Leadership team, you will champion our engineering philosophy by promoting a continuous improvement culture; creating a group of high performing engineering teams.
Responsible for guiding teams toward making pragmatic technical decisions to build and deliver high-quality software you demonstrate strong leadership, active listening, effective communication, and the ability to influence and drive credibility and reliability within the team.

Work Location: Hybrid, Melbourne - AU

What You Will Do

Operational Excellence and Best Practice: Oversee roadmapping, capacity planning, and delivery management while implementing and promoting software development best practices across the org including Architectural and Technical decision-making and documentation. Uplift org performance by embedding continuous improvement through learning and upskilling leaders and engineers.
Delivery Management: Coordinate a Delivery Management practice in collaboration with other Senior Leaders within Product and Technology valuing transparency, and fast feedback. Ensure that appropriate reporting structures and metrics are in place for effective management and reporting.
Risk and Roadmap Management: Identify and mitigate risks that could impact product development and delivery. Be prepared to pivot technical direction and adjust the roadmap based on changing market conditions or business priorities. Develop contingency plans to address unforeseen challenges and changes in market conditions.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, both within Product & Technology and across the business, to ensure we're building the right thing the right way. Work effectively with other functions to improve our development practices and processes to ensure we consistently deliver exceptional customer value.
Stakeholder Management: Ensuring alignment with key stakeholders by continuously communicating plans and status effectively across the company. Manage relationships with cross-functional and business stakeholders, as well as external vendors.
Metrics and KPIs: Be data driven in your approach to understanding and improving both Engineering process and product performance. Driven to deliver high quality value for customers, you will be optimising the end to end software delivery process.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of experience in building and leading engineering teams.
2+ years of experience leading multiple mid-sized teams (20+ people)
Engineering and/or Business Degree qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven track record of leading teams to successful production launches.
Detailed knowledge of agile software development methodologies.
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple evolving priorities effectively.
Strong leadership and people management skills, and experience building and scaling a high-performing team.
Experience in property management technology and Higher Education Housing is a plus.
