The Cathedral School is Townsville's only Independent Anglican School for boys and girls from Early Childhood to Year 12. Our boarding facilities are an integral part of our school community, offering a home away from home for students from Year 7 to 12. The school is committed to providing the highest standards in boarding and we pride ourselves on the various levels of specifically designed structures we have in place to offer top-class academic, boarding, and social support to our boarding students. Following 14 years of dedicated service, our Head of Boys Boarding has decided to finish his tenure at the school. To fill this vacancy, we are looking for a Director of Boarding/Head of Residence to lead and manage our boarding facilities who:

The Director of Boarding/Head of Residence is a full-time, senior leadership position at The Cathedral School, and a member of the 2025 Executive team. This role requires strong leadership, organisational, and administrative skills, with the ability to manage both strategic and operational responsibilities.
As Director of Boarding, the role involves the strategic leadership, management, and overall success of the school's boarding program. This includes ensuring a safe, supportive, and enriching environment for all boarders, overseeing policies and procedures, and maintaining high standards of pastoral care and student welfare across both boys' and girls' residences. The Director leads the recruitment, induction, training, and ongoing support of boarding staff, fostering a collaborative and professional culture. Additionally, the Director manages budgeting, resourcing, and systems that promote boarders' well-being and development, ensuring alignment with the school's broader strategic objectives and values.
As Head of Residence, the position is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of a boarding house. This includes ensuring a nurturing and structured environment that supports the pastoral, social, and academic development of students. The Head of Residence ensures consistent implementation of policies and procedures, provides exceptional pastoral care, and fosters a positive residential community. This role involves close collaboration with boarding staff, students, families, and school staff to promote student well-being, mentor boarders, and enhance their growth. The Head of Residence also supports the overall boarding community by creating a warm, home-like environment and providing social, emotional, and domestic support to students and families.
This position demands a high level of care, commitment, and enthusiasm. The successful applicant will serve as a positive, energetic role model within the boarding and broader school community, upholding the School's Anglican values while respecting all backgrounds and faiths. Most of the working hours will occur outside regular school time, involving supervision in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
