About the role
Prisoners have markedly elevated rates of mental illness, chronic disease, substance dependence and engagement in health risk behaviours. The prison setting provides a unique opportunity to address the physical and mental health needs of this disadvantaged group.
The Department of Justice delivers health care to adults and young people within Western Australian custodial facilities. An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic applicant to join our professional team in a dynamic service and one of the safest working environments for health professionals.
The Director Medical Services (DMS) provides clinical leadership on all initiatives to improve patient care and is involved in strategic planning for clinical and medical services. This position also facilitates the delivery of high quality health services across acute and primary health care, mental health and Alcohol and Other Drugs and oversees population health. The DMS provides professional leadership and governance for all medical practitioners with a focus on medical workforce, patient safety and quality improvement, medical education, and population health.
