Our experts work in collaboration with partners within the national sporting system to create and deliver high performance support services and environments to prepare athletes and coaches for international competition.About the role NSWIS is seeking a highly talented dynamic and experienced high performance sport professional to lead the development, design and delivery of nationally aligned high performance sport programs through prioritised allocation and management of coaching, performance support, administration, technology, data analytics, equipment and facilities that support targeted nationally identified athletes and local talent to become world best.The Director, High-Performance manages the NSWIS High Performance Managers who are responsible for leading and managing the operations of multidisciplinary performance teams for NSWIS sport programs.The Director, High-Performance will have specific responsibilities for major Games (Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth) campaigns and for major projects, such as the NSWIS sport inclusion project and the development of new daily training environments.The Director, High Performance chairs the High-Performance Management Committee and coordinates corporate and business planning and reporting (Annual Report and Board, Ministerial Communications) relating to the high-performance area.The key challenges of this role are:Lead and foster a high-performance team culture which is professional, respectful, and supportive but allows for challenge and a common understanding that the team is working to support Australian athletes to be world's best, Lead and direct NSWIS sport programs with multidisciplinary performance teams that are athlete performance focused, aligned nationally and locally and meet high standards of quality and safety, Ensure sport programs and individual athlete scholarship holders receive world class coaching and athlete support services and have access to the best possible daily training environments, Prioritise budget, operations, coaching and athlete support services to achieve high-performance outcomes for each sport program with consideration of i) the athlete's categorisation and development needs and ii) NSWIS sport inclusion priorities.
This is a full-time position, attracting a total remuneration package in line with PSSE Band 1 which will be negotiable based on the successful candidates experience and demonstrated competency.
The contract period ends on 31 December 2028 in line with the Olympic cycle.For further information about the role and the key accountabilities please see the job description.About you You will have:10+ years' experience developing elite athletes and coaches, including leading, devising and implementing successful programs in a sport or Institute program; demonstrating a proven knowledge of the demands, pressure and the needs of elite athletes and coaches, Success in developing and maintaining successful relationships with key stakeholders, Success with building a high-performance culture and the management of multi-disciplinary high-performance teams, Demonstrated success in managing projects, Staff management, including developing dynamic and driven teams and employee performance and development, Relevant degree qualifications (post graduate desirable), An advanced understanding of the following athlete support areas: coaching, talent development, sports science, sports medicine, sports technology/data science, athlete wellbeing and engagement.
Essential Requirements Relevant degree qualifications (Arts, Business, or Sciences undergraduate degree) or similar, Extensive senior level experience in high performance sport management and leadership, Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and systems management, including the implementation of high-performance sport program management systems, An advanced understanding of athlete support areas, including coaching, sports science, sports medicine, sports technology/data science, athlete wellbeing and engagement, Awareness of contemporary issues relating to athletes in high performance sport (mental health, wellbeing, social issues), Valid driver's license, Valid National Police Check Sport Integrity Australia - Anti-Doping Fundamentals and annual update 2024.
