The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We're focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It's all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.
About the role:
The Director, Financial Improvement & Capability is responsible for leading the development and enhancement of financial literacy across the sector, ensuring that all key stakeholders have the skills and knowledge to deliver on financial savings targets and identify opportunities to optimise performance and revenue. This role will be critical in driving financial sustainability by developing targeted programs that build capability, foster a deeper understanding of financial management, and promote informed decision-making. This role will focus on improving the sector's financial acumen, identifying opportunities for efficiencies, and embedding a culture of fiscal responsibility, ensuring that financial goals are met and sustained over the long term.
The Director will also have responsibility for the implementation of the department's Revenue Optimisation Strategy – including working closely with eHealth to ensure reporting policies and practices across the sector enable accurate and appropriate revenue flows into the system.
How you'll make a difference:
Design and deliver tailored financial literacy training and capability-building initiatives for key stakeholders across the sector, ensuring alignment with savings targets, revenue policies and financial performance goals.
Identify and implement best practices and tools that enhance financial decision-making, support efficiency improvements, and optimise resource allocation to achieve sector-wide financial sustainability.
Establish a robust framework for monitoring, tracking, and reporting on savings initiatives and revenue performance, ensuring transparency and alignment with organisational financial goals.
Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate:
A deep understanding of both the health sector and state government processes and policies, including cabinet processes.
Demonstrated ability to drive the uplift in financial capability through utilising influence and coordination levels that require a cross-department and sector collaborative effort.
What we offer:
The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
A wide range of growth and development opportunities within the department and wider Victorian Public Service & Sector.
A strong commitment to work-life balance, including a diverse array of flexible working arrangements.
