The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We're focused on supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It's all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.
About the role: The Director, Data Services Unit will play a critical role in ensuring the unit's smooth operation within the department through professional leadership and technical expertise.

Lead in the pursuit of excellence and innovation in relation to information management and standards in close collaboration with relevant staff in the department. Engage with key stakeholders to ensure data collection changes achieve desired outcomes. Participate in routine engagement with the department's senior executives and health service professionals to ensure information is meaningful and accurate and provides an accurate picture of where there are opportunities to improve and where we are getting it right. Lead collaborations and liaise with the Health and System Performance Reporting portfolio, in particular the Analytics branch 'Clinical Analytics and Outcomes Research', 'Management and Routine Reporting' and 'Public and Board Reporting' branches of the department to ensure efficiencies in reporting are identified and pursued, as appropriate. Lead and manage a team of technical specialists. Remain abreast of initiatives elsewhere in Australia and abroad to ensure the department benefits from learning about information technology advances in leading peer organisations. Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate: A post graduate degree in computer science, Information Technology, health informatics, public health administration or a related field is required. What we offer: The opportunity to perform meaningful work, making direct contributions toward enabling Victorians to be the healthiest people in the world.
