Organisational EnvironmentLaurel Place Inc. is funded by The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety. Laurel Place is governed by a Board drawn from the local community. The service employs 50 staff across four locations in Maroochydore, Gympie, Murgon as well as Moreton Bay.
The service provides a range of therapeutic support services to women, men, children, young people, families and the community that work towards reducing the impact and incidence of sexual, domestic and family violence.
Laurel Place also provides specialist education, training, information and resources to other professionals in the field.
Primary Delegations and Accountabilities/Reporting RelationshipsThis position will be required to work extensively and collaboratively with the broader leadership team, consisting of Board of Management, Executive Director, Project Lead: Clinical Governance, Manager, Group Programs & Community Education, Team Leaders, Senior Practitioners, and Business Services Manager.
The position reports to the Executive Director and is accountable to the Executive Director and the Board of Management.
The Director of Counselling Services will provide internal supervision to all Team Leaders and will be required to directly support counselling staff as required.
This position will also be required to collaborate extensively with the Support Worker – First Nations Clients.
Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesMaintain operational oversight of clinical services to ensure adherence to best practice guidelines, ethical frameworks, funding, regulatory, and legal requirements.Support clinical decision making for complex and high-risk cases in line with best practice, Laurel Place policies and procedures, and relevant legislative requirements.Offer an initial response to any client-related critical incidents and/or complaints and provide reports and advice to the leadership and executive team on these matters to support continual improvement processes.Provide line management and regular clinical supervision to Counselling Team Leaders.Facilitate regular leadership team meetings.Be proactive in preventing and managing psychosocial risks within counselling teams.Co-ordinate and collate quarterly performance reports in line with required funding outcomes, outputs, and throughputs.Prepare statistical and performance summary data for Board Meetings reports, AGM reports, and other occasions as required (e.g. grant applications).Co-ordinate recruitment, onboarding, and induction of clinical staff.Provide first point of contact and initial co-ordination of student placement requests across counselling programs, where capacity allows.Maintain oversight of legal issues and requests, provide advice to counselling leadership team and staff, and ensure consistency of response across the organisation.Cultivate effective and collaborative relationships with associated networks, other professionals and ensure best practice in the provision of support to vulnerable clients.Foster a culture of individual and organisational accountability, innovation and a commitment to continuous improvement in line with organisational values.Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of services provided and lead the development of new initiatives in the local area.Undertake a range of duties to develop work practice and procedures in consultation with other members of the clinical leadership team and provide advice on policy matters and contribute to their development.Participate in community engagement activities to enhance the profile of the service and ensure the participation of the community in the development, implementation and evaluation of local service responses.As duties as reasonably requested by the Executive Director and/or Board of Management, within the scope of the role.Key Selection CriteriaMinimum four-year tertiary degree in social work, psychology or similar (relevant post-graduate qualifications highly desirable) and minimum 5 years' experience in the field of sexual violence.Demonstrated capacity to lead a counselling/clinical service, preferably in a non-government organisation.Demonstrated understanding of the gendered nature of sexual violence, and its impact on both an individual and societal level.Demonstrated experience providing trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive and culturally safe therapeutic intervention and counselling to survivors of all ages, and non-offending family members, supporters, and carers.Well-developed skills in risk assessment (sexual assault, child protection, DFV, and mental health), crisis intervention, case formulation, and therapeutic planning.Experience delivering clinical and operational supervision and demonstrated capacity to provide input on complex clinical matters.Demonstrated understanding of legal processes relating to sexual assault, both for clients, and counselling services.Demonstrated ability to effectively collate and report statistical and performance data.Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills.Must possess (or be eligible for) a working with children check – Positive Notice Blue Card.Current Open Qld Driver's License.Eligibility to work in Australia.Capacity to work outside of normal business hours to support service delivery where reasonably required.Capacity to travel to all Laurel Place Office locations (Moreton Bay, Gympie and Murgon).All applications to consist of CV, Cover Letter and Addressed Selection Criteria to progress to shortlistingApplications close Wednesday 4th December 2024 at 5pm.Only shortlisted applications will be contacted.Your application will include the following questions:
