Office of Industrial Relations (Organisation site: https://www.oir.qld.gov.au/ ) Engineering Services; Specialised Health and Safety Services; Brisbane The Director and Chief Safety Engineer will lead the Engineering Services unit and inspire and mentor engineering specialists to plan, develop and implement strategies designed to safeguard the occupational safety of those exposed to complex and emerging technologies.
Your advice will inform the development of legislation, policy and practice that enhances the capability of Work Health and Safety Queensland in addressing occupational safety issues.
Key Responsibilities Lead, coordinate and monitor services provided by the unit to align with OIR's strategic objectives and lead financial, material and people matters according to policies and standards.
Provide expert oral and written advice to the Minister, Deputy Director-General, executive and other internal and external clients on the technical aspects of occupational safety.
Oversee and coordinate aspects of incident investigations which require the analysis of failure in structural/material, electrical/electronic and mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems and their contribution to incidents.
Compile expert reports and appear as a witness in the prosecution of breaches of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011 and administer the regulatory requirements for the design registration of high-risk plant and major amusement parks.
Lead the development of high-level prevention and enforcement strategies for the minimisation of adverse workplace safety outcomes by designing intervention strategies for the inspectorate.
Produce safety alerts, monitor the performance of legislation and evaluate the impact of new and emerging technologies in industry.
Monitor and develop workforce capability in the Engineering Services unit and provide strategic advice to OIR executive relating to the skills profile of the inspectorate to enhance its capacity to administer the legislation in workplaces.
Represent OIR and WHSQ at high-level government, standards development and industry forums where professional qualifications and expert technical knowledge are necessary.
