About This OpportunityAs Director of the Centre for Marine Science, the successful candidate will facilitate the full range of interdisciplinary interactions across the university, with the goal of further establishing UQ as an international leader in solution-focused approaches to the future global challenges society is facing in marine science.
Key to the role's success will be an ability to drive innovation across UQ's broad research capabilities and to enable engagement with national and international partnerships in industry, government, philanthropy, and Indigenous communities.
Alongside providing strategic leadership and governance of the Heron Island Research Station, the Moreton Bay Research Station, and boating and diving at the University, the successful applicant will:
Identify and develop networks for researchers and experts from UQ to use in the pursuit of significant projects and consultancies that will further enhance the scientific recognition and external profile of UQ in marine science.
Provide innovative leadership in marine science, influencing future trends, fostering UQ's research excellence, and driving external research opportunities and partnerships.
Build and maintain multidisciplinary networks, alliances, and collaborations nationally and internationally to develop innovative solutions and tools for end-users.
Secure major funding opportunities by working with government, NGOs, businesses, Indigenous groups, and philanthropic partners, while enhancing UQ's engagement with industry and external stakeholders.
Lead the governance and strategic direction of UQ's marine research facilities, strengthening UQ's role in marine science research, teaching, and public engagement.
This is a part-time (20%), fixed-term position for up to 3 years at Academic Level D or E.
About YouWe are seeking candidates able to demonstrate:
An established international track record relevant to marine science research, teaching, and/or leadership.
Capacity to facilitate and attract large-scale national and international research funding and provide strategic research leadership in a multi-stakeholder environment.
Proven ability to work with governments and external organisations to translate research opportunities into impact and policy change.
Exceptional leadership, governance, and administrative experience, business planning, and entrepreneurial activities with a proven track record of attracting significant resources for research.
An ability to establish effective relationships and deliver research outcomes from partnerships internationally, across the university, between universities, the wider community level, industry, Indigenous communities, government, advisory and professional bodies.
You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply.
