Director, Aboriginal Health Policy and Transformation The Department for Health and Wellbeing assists the Minister for Health and Wellbeing, to set the policy framework and strategic directions for SA Health.
The department supports the delivery of public health services, formulates health policy, facilitates public and consumer consultation on health issues, and monitors the performance of South Australia's health system by providing timely advice, research and administrative support.
SA Health is working to address the health inequities faced by Aboriginal people, reducing the gap in health outcomes between South Australia's Aboriginal people and the rest of South Australia's population.
In line with the new strategic vision for Aboriginal Health, we are recruiting a new role, Director, Aboriginal Health Policy and Transformation.
The Opportunity
The role supports the Chief Aboriginal Health Officer in effective Aboriginal leadership across SA Health and will work collaboratively with Local Health Networks and Attached Agencies to shape and strengthen system-wide Aboriginal health proposals and related programs that improve health outcomes.
The role oversees the development and delivery of Aboriginal health policy, plans and strategies across SA Health and drives system intelligence that will ensure effective and improved commissioning, performance, evaluation, and evidence-based outcomes.
The Director Aboriginal Health Policy and Transformation leads the Aboriginal Health Unit's Policy and Reforms Team and Investment, Evidence and Performance Team and works collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the alignment of strategic priorities and approaches to advance the Aboriginal health agenda.
Key Responsibilities
Leading system wide policy and project initiatives to enable the delivery of transformational reforms that deliver on Closing the Gap and SA Aboriginal Health Care Framework.
Leading the creation of quality policies, systems and processes through appropriate strategic quality assurance.
Establishing systems and processes to ensure the appropriate recording and sharing of information to foster collaboration.
Promoting good customer service, learning and development, safety and welfare of employees.
Achieving required divisional performance targets and objectives that inform and advance Aboriginal Health initiatives.
Successfully leading commitments to build capability and capacity of SA Health to meet its commitments to the state's Closing the Gap Priority Reforms and Socio-economic Outcomes.
About You
As the Director, you will lead with passion and purpose, driving initiatives to elevate the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities in South Australia. You will be responsible for ensuring all parties work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure the alignment of strategic priorities and approaches to advance the Aboriginal health agenda.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Leader with experience driving positive change and transformation. Ideally you will have an understanding of health issues facing the sector and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait community.
Required Qualifications:
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and planning skills with a focus on Aboriginal health and wellbeing.
Proven ability to develop strategic working relationships with stakeholders.
Experience in leading and influencing strategic policy direction, and in understanding and analysing complex work practices.
Proven significant experience in effectively contributing to the leadership of a large and complex organisation, analysing complex, contentious, and sensitive issues.
Demonstrated highly developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
