Great opportunity for an experienced hospital dietitian who loves a wide variety of clinical work and upskilling in new areas.Grade 2 Dietitian, fixed term, part time, parental leave backfill, 32 hrs per weekAvailable from 6 January 2025 to 19 September 2025Located across all sites of Austin Health – Heidelberg (Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital) and Kew (Talbot Rehabilitation Centre)Pay range as per classification Grade 2 (classification AJ1 to AJ4) $47.81 to $54.10 per hour + salary packaging + super + higher qualification allowance if applicable.Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and state-wide. We have a highly engaged, diverse and collaborative workforce that is unified by our goal to help people live healthy and fulfilled lives.About the Nutrition and Dietetics DepartmentWe are part of the Allied Health division, which employs over 1,000 health professionals across 27 disciplines, broadly known as the therapies and sciences, who work as key members of the multidisciplinary team aiming to provide the best outcomes for patients via preventing, diagnosing and treating a range of healthcare conditions.The Nutrition and Dietetics department has 50 staff members across three sites - Austin (acute care), Repat (sub-acute care) and Talbot (rehabilitation), providing services to inpatients, outpatients and home & community programs. We operate as one department and come together for staff meetings and continuing education. Our work environment is vibrant and fast paced and we are a friendly and supportive team. We have many highly skilled and experienced dietitians who lead our clinical teams (specialist medicine, ICU/surgical/gastro, oncology, paediatrics & mental health, sub-acute care, ambulatory care) and portfolios (staff education, student training, quality and safety, research, nutrition support, food service, outpatient services, workforce).About the roleYour role will be to provide clinical backfill when Dietitians take leave. You will be expected to work across all clinical areas and all sites, with training and support provided for areas that are new/less familiar to you. Clinical work areas include renal, general medicine, spinal, respiratory, neurosurgery, cardiology, stroke, neurology, endocrinology, ICU, GI surgery, gastroenterology, ENT, liver transplant, medical oncology, radiotherapy, haematology, geriatric medicine, general paediatrics, paediatric eating disorders, adult mental health and eating disorders.You can work the 32 hours across four or five days. You will have opportunity to flex up hours if additional cover is needed. Weekend work is an option.You will work under the direction of the Grade 4 workforce operations lead, and on a daily basis under a clinical team leader in the area you are working in. Your work allocation will usually be done about one month ahead but may change at short notice.About youProvide direct specialist clinical dietetic service to allocated Clinical Units (approx. 70% of workload)Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams and nutrition department meetingsUndertake administrative functions including documentation and activity reportingLead designated Nutrition and Dietetic Department projects and teamsStrive for continuous improvement in dietetic intervention quality and outcomesOngoing evaluation of dietetic service effectivenessParticipate in the student dietitian training programEngage in education, training, and research activities related to assigned clinical areasMaintain high clinical knowledge by participating in relevant professional developmentContinue to expand professional dietetic knowledge and skillsEnsure safe and effective patient care through participation in the Allied Health Division clinical supervision programApplication Documents requiredCover letter (maximum one page), resume, proof of dietetic qualifications.Working at Austin Health means enjoying a strong sense of purpose, engaging in meaningful work every day.
