The role: We are currently seeking two experienced Domestic Violence Practitioners to join our team based in Hervey Bay on a Permanent Full Time basis.
In this role, you will be providing intake, counselling, court support and group work to women who have experienced domestic and family violence within the Sunshine Coast Regional Domestic and Family Violence Service (SCRDFVS).
This involves partnering with women using a trauma informed, strengths based and solution focused approach to assist them to thrive in a future free of violence and abuse.
Key Duties: Making initial contact with women who have experienced domestic and family violence.
Completing client intakes, including initial risk assessment and safety planning Provision of domestic violence counselling, psychoeducation, and group work Supporting women attending court in relation to a domestic violence order Supporting women to identify their goals and immediate needs in order to assist them to increase their safety, agency, and autonomy.
Advocating on behalf of women experiencing violence and abuse, making suitable referrals, assessing eligibility for safety upgrades as well as other forms of practical assistance Participating in meetings and liaising with other local stakeholders, e.g., Child Safety, Corrections, Housing and Police Skills and Experience: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Science from a recognised institution (including eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, PACFA or ACA) Well-developed understanding of the Domestic and Family Violence Act, Child Protection Act and Family Law Act, as well as the issues and the impacts on families engaged in these systems Demonstrated articulation of a well-developed practice framework for domestic and family violence Experience in intake, risk assessment and safety planning, court support, psychoeducation, referral pathways, DVO assistance and group work Knowledge, skills and experience in the provision of trauma informed care, triaging crisis, a good understanding of risk Management and the ability to work under pressure Well-developed written work including report writing, case notes, data collection, data entry and computer literacy skills Highly effective communication, with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to advocate for our clients' needs with other statutory organisations/ departments Have a high degree of professionalism and integrity in working with clients, colleagues, and community stakeholders Ability to support and work with diverse families with complex needs.
Essential requirements for the role: Relevant tertiary qualifications are essential Current (or eligibility for) Qld Working with Children Check – or be eligible to apply Evidence of Australian Work Rights to confirm citizenship or a visa holder (provide evidence at interview) Current (no less than 3 months) Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check; and a signed statutory declaration stating you have no criminal offences (Australia and overseas).
Have a current driver's licence P2 or above.
