With over 400 people and five development labs spread across Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom, Objective is a leading developer of SaaS solutions for the government.
Our role:
We are currently looking for a Development Director to join our Sydney office.
Our engineering team is building a new cloud-first platform, Objective Build, that will revolutionize how the construction sector works with local government.
With over 300 councils across Australasia already using Objective planning software, this latest innovation seeks to bring the industry, including architects, designers and builders, closer to local government, creating a partnership simplifying development applications and their outcomes with Councils to automate more elements of the process.
The Development Director will be responsible for leading teams to deliver this new platform across Australia and New Zealand.
This role reports to the Global VP of Planning & Building and has people management responsibilities.
A day in your role:
Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement the overall strategy for software development that aligns with the company's business goals.
This includes defining the technical roadmap and ensuring that software projects meet organizational needs.
Project Management: Oversee software projects from concept to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope and budget.
This includes coordinating resources, managing timelines, and setting priorities.
People Leadership: Provide employee-focused leadership and actively drive strong employee engagement and a high-performing culture through the hiring, motivation, and development of a diverse team.
Quality Assurance and Performance Optimisation: Ensure that the software meets high-quality standards through testing, code reviews, and performance optimization techniques.
Continuous Improvement: Lead initiatives to optimize development processes and adopt agile, DevOps, or other methodologies to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Reporting: Regularly report on the progress of software development initiatives to senior management, providing updates on key performance indicators (KPIs), project milestones, budgets, and any potential risks or delays.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Office of the CTO, product managers, business stakeholders, and IT teams to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the software aligns with broader business objectives.
Risk Management and Compliance: Identify potential risks in software projects (e.g., security vulnerabilities or technical debt) and implement strategies to mitigate them.
Ensure that the software complies with relevant regulations and standards.
Budget Management: Oversee the software development budget, making sure that financial resources are used effectively.
Your skills, experience and beyond:
Highly experienced in managing and delivering complex software solutions across different technologies including Java, React Native and PHP.
Proven experience in successfully managing multiple engineering teams and leading Agile methodology.
Proven history of engaging with product development and collaborating on innovation for best customer results.
Strategic Thinker: able to develop realistic action plans to achieve specific goals.
Takes a creative approach to problem-solving, innovation and issue resolution.
