The Youth Accommodation Support Services (YASS) provides support, assistance, and accommodation for young people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.
The service connects vulnerable young people to school, work, vocational training, and other support services while assisting them to obtain long-term housing.
As the Drug Education Support Service (DESS) Case Manager based in Victoria Park, you will provide case coordination with young people and their families who, because of alcohol or other drug use, are experiencing difficulties.
You will contribute to positive outcomes by providing case management, brief interventions, informal counselling, group facilitation, and educating young people.
The position requires three days a week late shift coverage.
Your Key Responsibilities Complete AOD assessments and intake processes for allocated young people.Support young people to create holistic and strength-based individualised AOD support plans utilising SMART goals and referrals to supplementary services as needed.Work collaboratively with service staff to provide specialised support to address complex cases or emergency situations.Able to work until 8 PM on three days a week.Actively build networks with specialist AOD and Mental Health services and participate in service meetings.Provide brief intervention and informal counselling based on motivational interviewing techniques.Facilitate therapeutic and educational groups covering AOD, mental health, and wellbeing with young people engaged in the service.Provide AOD information and resources to young people, families, internal staff, external service providers, and the community, where possible.Requirements for Success With a significant background in the AOD and/or child, youth & family sectors, you will be confident in your case management and assessment processes.
Other requirements include:
A Degree or Diploma in Social Welfare/Social Science/Youth Work or a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role.Demonstrated experience providing outreach, case management, case coordination, assessment, counselling, and crisis intervention skills, including working with people experiencing alcohol and other drug use issues, mental health issues, mental health crises, and working with intoxicated young people.Experience and ability to work with at-risk young people, including knowledge of child and adolescent development and child and youth safe practices.Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing and data collection.Full Driver Licence with no restrictions.Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
