As a key member of our Engineering Excellence team, the Design System Lead Engineer will take charge of developing and executing our Design System.
This newly created role involves creating high-quality software solutions, shaping the technical architecture, and making sure everything aligns with our overall engineering goals.
You'll work closely with the Head of Engineering and partner with our UX team to create a smooth journey from design to production.
Your focus will be on enhancing the developer experience, empowering teams to build shared components while staying aligned with our business objectives.
Collaboration will be key, as you'll work across teams to boost front-end application performance and deliver cohesive technical solutions that really add value to the organization.
You won't be building every component, but you'll definitely focus on the ones that matter most!

As our  Design System Lead Engineer,  your key responsibilities include, but may not be limited to: Developing and maintaining a high-quality federated, Design System platform and developer experience allowing teams autonomy  to contribute tested, secure, and scalable components.
Designing and developing a robust developer experience including  developer onboarding and documentation.
Creating a robust CI and CD process and testing framework for the design system validating the releasability of the components.
Developing an appropriate strategy for versioning of the component library and enabling teams to upgrade their production applications.
Designing and developing a strategy for sharing design elements across channels  (web and mobile native) integrated with our Figma Design System reference.
Leading technical problem-solving and provide technical guidance to other engineers working with the Design System.
Fostering team alignment and collaboration on technical decisions.
Leading technical initiatives, including architecture and design decisions in line with the organisational architecture goals.
Participate in driving the software and architecture quality strategy.
Advocating for and implementing best practices for Continuous Delivery, including automated testing (BDD, TDD), build and deployment pipelines, and observability.
Mentor junior team members and participate in code reviews and/or actively pair with other engineers to maintain a high standard of work.
About you Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience working in an agile team environment with some of that time spent leading a project or engineers.
Expertise in browser technologies and browser APIs, JavaScript and the JavaScript specification and runtime(s), and TypeScript.
Expertise with React and modern frameworks for managing state, integrating CSS, including modern build systems and bundlers for distribution.
Exposure to and a high-level understanding of JavaScript engines and runtimes (V8, JS Core) Deep understanding of Software Engineering best practices, including object-oriented and functional programming, design patterns, testing pyramid & automated testing, Domain Driven Design etc.
Exposure to a broad range of front-end platforms and application types (mobile native, PWA's, Web, SPAs, SSR), and architectures (monolithic, micro-frontends, modular, plugin-architectures).
Experience establishing architectural patterns across large front-end React applications (MVC, MVVM, Clean Architecture) Understanding of the cloud and its purpose in serving front-end applications.
Experience with and an understanding of back-end applications and how they integrate with front-end services as well as different layer 7 protocols and their respective tradeoffs (GraphQL, JSON, Restful APIs, Protobuf).
Experience with Continuous Delivery, including automated testing, build and deployment pipelines, and monitoring and alerting.
Effective and confident communicator with internal and external stakeholders of different technical understanding.
Experience working on platform-level projects servicing the needs of other engineers or teams.
Experience designing, building, and enforcing team and service interfaces and boundaries.
