About The Role

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in a Design Manager role. It would be highly advantageous if they had experience within Local Government with design experience in public domain and civil infrastructure projects would be essential or at least highly advantageous.

Our client would ideally like candidates to have managed major projects at least valued up to $20M, with a good balance of smaller minor infrastructure projects up to $1.5M per year. Projects will be across Traffic Management and cycleways within public domain.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Prepare concept designs and feasibility for projects advising internal clients of issues, alignment with project objectives, concept design and options design standards, initial cost and program advice, to support the formulation of the Capital Works programs.Manage a multi-discipline design program for delivery of public domain assets including briefs for external contractors for complex landscape and urban design projects. Prepare and manage quotations and in accordance with the City's policies and procedures and participate in the selection of consultants.Collaborate with the delivery team and internal clients and stakeholders to develop project briefs including time, cost, scope and quality objectives and to ensure project delivery within these parameters.Engage with The city's design and construct contracts and monitor the performance of consultants and contractors including time, cost, compliance, risk, quality control and reporting, to ensure that the desired intentions and project objectives are being achieved and contract requirements are being met.Take remedial action when required.Liaise within the Unit and with other Council divisions and staff to ensure that projects comply with Council policies and practices regarding design, sustainability, heritage, accessibility, detail and materials and maintenance.Communicate Council Policies and practices relating to the public domain within project teams and across the wider organisation and contribute to the ongoing evolution and improvement of Council's public domain policies, specifications, and practices.Commit to and operate in accordance with the Unit's operational systems including project management and document management systems and procedures and contribute to the ongoing evolution and improvement of the unit's systems and processes.

Key Challenges

To be responsible for the design and management of public domain infrastructure and urban design projects across all project phases including initiation, design development, consultation, executive and Council approvals (where required) documentation, and support during construction.Projects cover a wide and varied spectrum including open space strategies, Plans of Management and masterplans, plazas, streetscapes, cycle ways, to detailed street furniture.
