The Role
The Design Manager will be responsible for design management activities delivered within the Construction program for housing projects throughout Queensland and will focus on ensuring the services provided are customer. You will work closely with project managers, the technical team, client and customer stakeholders, external suppliers and design consultants. You will be responsible for:
Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive design management related documentation.
Actively participate in the methodology development for the delivery of the project, with particular emphasis on the front-end design phase.
Prepare the design related inputs for the Principal Project Requirements (PPR) and proactively work with the project manager to incorporate and consolidate into the PPR.
Contribute to selecting and engaging the Design Consultant Team
Proactively lead and manage consultants to deliver high quality design documentation on time, on budget as well as in compliance with the Project Brief.
Manage the evolution of the design, including required project consultant inputs, cost plan and buildability considerations as outlined in the Project Brief.
Lead the critical review of the project design documentation for customer brief, budget, regulatory and building compliance.
Maintain design quality control management.
Provide buildability and value management input into the design phase, as well as post design phase of projects.
Participate in tender evaluation activities as required
Participate in Design strategy development activities as required under the direction of the leadership team.
Prepare and manage the Documentation Programme within the Project Programme
You
The ideal candidate will have strong and proven design experience. To achieve success, they will require the following:
Tertiary degree in a relevant field such as architecture, construction management or similar.
Demonstrated experience in the role of a client-side design manager, managing contractor design manager, or
Minimum 7-10 years of experience in architecture, engineering, or a similar field with experience in leading and managing design projects from conception to completion, including demonstrated capability in engaging, and managing sub consultant teams .
Demonstrated understanding of time, cost and scope constraints pertaining to the design phase as well as the overall project
Ability to work well in a team, including ability to interact with a range of personalities
