Deputy State Solicitor - Advice, Policy & Public LawContractWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Solicitor to lead our Advice, Policy and Public Law (APPL) Legal Section at the State Solicitor's Office.The OfficeThe State Solicitor's Office (the Office) is the Western Australian Government's principal legal adviser. The Office enables government action, manages the State's legal risk, and supports the First Law Officer with authoritative advice on key legal issues. Our work delivers demonstrably better government decisions, strengthens the rule of law, and leads to greater community trust in the public sector. We are a centre of legal excellence committed to the highest standards of service and professionalism.Legal Services provided by us include the provision of legal advice; the preparation of legal documents; the conduct of litigation; and representation as counsel in courts and tribunals. The Office provides these services in a cost effective and timely way, consistent with maintaining legal excellence and integrity in the Government's legal dealings.The RoleThe Deputy State Solicitor (DSS) is a senior leader and a member of the Corporate Executive team, primarily responsible for the performance of the APPL Section, ensuring the delivery of high quality and cost-effective and independent legal advice to the State. Reporting to the State Solicitor, you will strategically partner with other senior members of the Corporate Executive to shape the future direction of the Office.As the leader of APPL section and its people, the DSS ensures key client relationships are effectively established and managed and quality legal services are provided to the Government.You will have the highest degree of legal ability in providing high level legal advice and will be an experienced leader who has the capacity to coordinate at the highest level multiple legal functions' outputs and the delivery of legal services.You will have strong interpersonal skills, superior communication skills and the ability to contribute to the collegiate and supportive work environment of the Office.What is on offer?A term of five years based on a fixed term contract.An attractive remuneration package will be offered including salary, superannuation and private use of a motor vehicle (or notional value), with the salary to be determined by the WA Salaries and Allowances Tribunal.Salary packaging is available.Superannuation 11.5%, increasing to 12% by 1 July 2025.Access to flexible working arrangements including working from home arrangements and generous leave for enhanced work life balance.Please note that to be eligible for appointment, applicants must be Australian citizens or have permanent residency status.A current permanent WA Public Sector employee will elect to forego permanency to take up this position and will not be entitled to a right of return under section 58 of the Public Sector Management Act 1994.How to applyIf you don't want to miss out on this great opportunity, apply now by submitting:A current comprehensive resume including the contact details of two referees.A statement of no more than three pages providing examples to demonstrate:The highest degree of legal ability in providing highly complex and sensitive legal advice.The capacity to successfully lead and manage a large team and coordinate the outputs of multiple legal functions.How you have actively contributed to the strategic direction of an organisation at a high level.A copy of your admission certificates.Note: during the selection process we will be assessing applicants against all the Job Related Requirements outlined in the JDF in context to the Leadership Expectations.Other important informationThis position is under the Salaries and Allowance Determination – Special Division and Prescribed Office Holders No.1 2023.
