NSW Department of Education – Newcastle NSWTelarah Public School develops students to be Safe, Positive Learners. This is achieved through quality teaching, high levels of resourcing and strong school community support built on positive relationships that value education. Telarah Public School is situated in the western Maitland suburb of Telarah. The school is a P-6 setting with enrolment of approximately 540 students and a FOEI of 170 with 19 mainstream classes, two K–6 Support Classes for Emotional Disturbances (ED), an Early Intervention Unit (EIU) and a two-unit Preschool. Enrolment is 25% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, 4% non–English speaking backgrounds and there is some notable transience mainly due to government housing availability.Telarah Public School has a strong commitment to providing quality education and provides a significant number of additional staff to support the improvement of literacy and numeracy outcomes across all Key Learning Areas. Teaching and Learning is embedded across engaging whole school programs through Project Based Learning and is developed through a range of wider curriculum activities including the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, School Musical and Project Based Learning Culmination Events. Whole school wellbeing is implemented through Positive Behaviour for Learning with the values of Safe, Positive Learners underpinning a supportive school culture of high expectations.Position InformationTelarah Public School develops students to be Safe, Positive Learners. This is achieved through quality teaching, high levels of resourcing and strong school community support built on positive relationships that value education.Selection CriteriaIn addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary:Proactive, visible leadership with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of the school's executive team to enhance student outcomes with an emphasis on high expectations for all students.Demonstrated capacity to strengthen partnerships with parents, students and community in strategies that facilitate growth in student engagement and wellbeing.Outstanding communication, prioritisation of competing demands, management and organisational skills to manage the daily complexities of a senior executive role.Demonstrated ability to strategically plan and implement whole school literacy and numeracy initiatives through a model of Explicit Teaching, apply evidence-informed practice while being responsive to data through implementation, leading to improved student outcomes.General Selection CriteriaSuccessful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
