Salary: Level 3, $132,143 - $144,601 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2021)
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025
Derby District High School (DHS) is located in Derby, which is situated at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Derby is 220km east of Broome by road and is 2463km north of Perth. It was the first town settled in the Kimberley. Derby DHS is located in attractive and well-maintained grounds and surroundings. With an enrolment of 600 students, it provides an education program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
The successful applicant will support the secondary school staff, as well as promoting positive high expectations relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community of Derby and surrounding Aboriginal communities. To be successful in this role you should be highly competent at establishing positive relationships across a wide range of contexts including students, staff, parents and engage parents and the wider community in the educational work of the school to enable all students to reach their potential.
The ability to mentor graduate teachers in delivering high quality teaching and learning strategies is desirable. In addition, experience working in an Aboriginal community and a passion for Aboriginal Education and improving the educational outcomes for these students is highly regarded. The successful applicant will ideally be committed to, and be able to exhibit, successful intervention approaches, particularly in the areas of literacy, numeracy and attendance across the school.
As the successful applicant, you will ideally be experienced in leading student services processes, SEWB programs and be able to work alongside teaching staff as an instructional leader. Experience with Positive Behaviour in Schools (PBiS) and an understanding or willingness to participate in leading school improvement processes would be an advantage.
The Deputy Principal will oversee the day-to-day operations of the year 7 cohort and develop processes and procedures to encourage effective communication and support the effective coordination of daily events and issues relating to duty of care. You will assist the school to facilitate workforce effectiveness in leading and motivating staff in planning; directed at improving outcomes for students and the level of service delivered by the school especially in Explicit Direct Instruction.
