Lockhart State School is located on the eastern side of Cape York Peninsula in the spectacular, coastal, discrete Aboriginal community of Lockhart River, 800 kms north of Cairns. The school and community are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated Deputy Principal K-12 to join the current school leadership team for the 2025 school year - until the end of Term 4.
This unique position is a flexible role, with some scope for negotiation around sharing of responsibilities, based on the strengths and desired areas of growth for the successful applicant.
The position is a full-time position which has the option to be converted to permanency at the end of 12 months.

About the School Lockhart State School is comprised of 150 students from Kindy to year 12. Located in Lockhart River, on the east coast of Cape York Peninsula, the area has considerable cultural diversity and traditions which are embedded in the curriculum. About the Opportunity Reporting to the school Principal, as a Deputy Principal you will directly contribute to the continuous improvement in educational outcomes for school students at Lockhart SS with a focus on attendance, literacy and numeracy. You will work with the Principal to successfully implement Departmental priorities in curriculum, and teaching and learning.
Your Role As Deputy Principal, you will be working closely alongside the Principal, Head of Department - Curriculum, GO and HoSES to support the management of the School across the K-12 cohort. Part of this includes the occasional requirement to provide relief to teaching staff for non-contact time. This time will be negotiated on appointment and will be coordinated to utilise your areas of teaching expertise.
About You Key Skills and Attributes that will assist in your application: Familiar with the P-12 Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Framework (CARF) and assist in its implementation within a K-12 school setting. Able to line manage a team of teachers and teacher aides and develop their capability utilising the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and Performance Development Plans. Able to effectively manage student behaviour by supporting implementation of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) multi-tiered systems of support. Able to communicate effectively and build trust relationships with parents, Community members and Service Providers to support all students at School to be successful. You will need to: Be adaptable and flexible and understand the complexities of working in a remote location Be able to work with First Nations People Interested?
