Salary: Level 3, $132,143 - $144,601 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2021)
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Midvale Primary School (PS) is located approximately 20 kilometres from the Perth CBD, within the City of Swan. Our current enrolment is approximately 350 students from Kindergarten to Year Six. We have a very multicultural school population which is drawn mainly from Midvale and Midland and the nearby suburbs of Viveash, Middle Swan and Swan View.

This understanding forms the foundation of a truly collaborative approach between staff, students, families and the wider community to change lives and expand possibilities.
The staff are committed to providing innovative, evidence-based programmes in a supportive and safe, trauma-informed environment. Staff utilise Explicit Direct Instruction to teach in a direct, structured way and this, along with other whole school programs, reduce within school variability so students are given the opportunity to achieve the best they are capable of.
The school supports students' academic and personal growth through Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), enabling the students to engage in learning in an inclusive environment. At Midvale PS, students are Safe, Thoughtful, Achievers and Respectful and this is embedded in the school culture.
Midvale PS is renowned for its outstanding pastoral care and excellent early intervention strategies. It has a reputation for being inclusive and providing quality education programs, especially for those with individual needs. We employ two Chaplains who support our school community two days per week and we engage with many support agencies to ensure our students' needs are met.
The Deputy Principals at Midvale PS assume a pivotal role, working closely with the principal and the school leadership team to drive the school's strategic directions and support whole school improvement. Educational leadership is a key responsibility, involving the active development and promotion of the school's values and priorities. The Deputy Principal leads collaboration, encouraging all stakeholders to actively share ownership of the school's vision and goals. A key responsibility will be to develop, review and refine school procedures and guidelines that govern all aspects of student wellbeing, inclusion and support, consulting with staff and providing support that enables successful implementation.
The successful applicant should ideally possess a strong knowledge and understanding of Explicit Direct Instruction, PBS and Trauma Informed Practice. Suitable applicants will ideally possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and commitment to supporting staff and students to achieve success. These skills will support the establishment of positive and respectful relationships with students and their families, colleagues, and the broader school community as we commit to being an inclusive and high-performing school.
The Deputy Principal is instrumental in ensuring the effective operation of the school. This includes the delivery of a new Strategic Plan through data-driven decision-making and the establishment of systems that align with the school's priority areas. In the context of the school, the suitable applicant will ideally possess professional flexibility and the ability to anticipate and adapt to changing circumstances as they arise. Successful applicants will have experience in case management processes, working with external agencies to support students at educational risk as part of a Student Services Team.
Applicants with leadership qualities and skills to build staff capacity and cultivate distributed leadership within a culture of high expectations is highly regarded and proven experience would be advantageous.
Deputy Principals are expected to lead and engage staff in shared beliefs about teaching and learning excellence through our Collaborative Teams and a proven capacity to:
Build and support teaching teams to deliver high impact, low variance practice aligned with our identified whole school practices. Build capabilities and capacity through implementation of Teaching for Impact, the Western Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework. Engage the staff in their collaborative group in 1:1 coaching and mentoring. Build teaching excellence through delivery of high-quality professional learning, peer mentoring and feedback. Enhance the performance and development culture within the school. Lead and sustain culturally safe and responsive work and learning environments. Overall, the Deputy Principal serves as a key figure for educational leadership and operational effectiveness within the school.
