This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Malibu School, located in Safety Bay, is a specialist Kindergarten to Year 12 school for students with complex special education needs that may include intellectual disability, sensory impairment, autism spectrum disorder and / or physical and health conditions. Known for its high-quality education, Malibu school is committed to fostering communication and independence, aligned with each student's strengths and interests to prepare them for "A Future Without Limits."
A dedicated team of specialised teachers and Education Assistants lead individualised learning experiences tailored to each student's needs across three phases of learning. The early year's programs focus on foundational literacy and communication skills, while primary and middle years build upon essential life skill learning. In the senior years, a pathways and transition program guides students through vocational education and extended community engagement opportunities.
Malibu School is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced Deputy Principal to join our leadership team. We seek a reflective leader, with well-developed skills, to thrive in a fast-paced and rewarding work environment, ideally with experience building capability in others. This leader should be results driven about progressing achievement for students with complex needs, is knowledgeable, inherently positive and solution-focused and actively promotes the shared beliefs that all children can learn, that students will develop skills across all curriculum areas and that the social, emotional, physical and educational development of all children is best facilitated when parents, teachers, specialists and therapists work together.
In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the executive leadership team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by promoting the school values, ethos and priorities. They encourage staff, community partners and families to share ownership of the school's vision of 'A future Without Limits' by enhancing pathway planning and programs to maximise students' outcomes as students successfully build on prior learning while they transition to life beyond school. Experience in leading teams through class, phase of learning and whole-school-improvement, using data informed practices and evidence-based approaches for students with complex communication need and moderate to profound disability, is highly regarded.
The successful applicant should have a clear understanding of the conditions and learning environment required to prepare students for success. Ideally, with experience in triangulating data to make informed decisions, the Deputy Principal will monitor student progress and work collaboratively to enhance student engagement, wellbeing, academic achievement and staff capability. Applicants should have highly developed case management skills and be able to provide feedback utilising effective communication skills, leading and consulting with staff to facilitate classroom solutions that align to our strategic agenda. They will lead operational strategies that enhance the development of staff to meet student learning outcomes and performance expectations with effective management of related administrative timelines demonstrated.
As an instructional leader, the successful applicant should have a strong understanding of the Kindergarten to Year 10 Western Australian Curriculum, Abilities based Learning Education Western Australia (ABLEWA) and/or senior secondary programs with evidence of facilitating effective classroom planning and practice relevant to student ability, interest and need. Using effective change management strategies, the Deputy Principal will assist the school community to enhance classroom practice, with a particular focus on strengthening curriculum delivery to increase students' access, engagement and independence. Experience in empowering staff to deliver evidence-based programs and practices with appropriate differentiation for all students is highly relevant, as is a high-level knowledge of a range of resources and strategies to facilitate communication and learning for students with disability and diverse communication abilities that includes a strong knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support approaches and practices.
