Position OverviewThe Deputy Principal - Head of Senior School leads, develops and implements initiatives that are aligned with achieving the School's mission, vision, values and strategic objectives. The Deputy Principal - Head of Senior School will have a strong working partnership with the Principal, Deputy Principal – Head of Junior School, Business Manager, Director of Teaching & Learning and the Senior School Heads of Curriculum and Stage. The Deputy Principal - Head of Senior School reports to the Principal and is an active participant of the HVGS Executive Team. The Deputy Principal - Head of Senior School will also have a teaching load that will be determined at the time of appointment. Core Expectations and Key Accountabilities (abridged – full position description available in the Applicant Information Pack upon request) Strategic leadership Fostering a culture of excellence and innovation by inspiring a diverse range of pedagogical approaches that meet the current and future needs of the student population Promoting and facilitating professional learning, especially regarding developing the capacity of the Heads of Stage (Senior School) Working with the Director of Teaching & Learning and Heads of Curriculum (Senior School) to implement an engaging, challenging, and responsive curriculum which is aligned with the School's strategic intent Demonstrating an understanding of global, social and political trends as they affect education, and the current challenges facing education in Australia Leading staff in the development, design and delivery of curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting that reflects the School's learning philosophy and vision, and which is anchored in sound research Operational leadership Maintain comprehensive knowledge of current educational issues, curriculum frameworks and national standards as they apply to a 7-12 context Demonstrating effective performance management strategies that support teacher growth using a strengths-based model Develop a strong Senior School culture, in collaboration with the Principal and Senior School staff Oversee all students in 7-12, including their wellbeing and academics to ensure appropriate and relevant programs, learning pathways, programme flexibility and timetables are in place Ensure the development and implementation of a strong and responsive pastoral system that actively supports each Senior School student Knowledge, skills and attributes Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning A passion for the International Baccalaureate Programmes Sensitivity to cultural nuances, a commitment to inclusion and an active advocate for diversity Ability to integrate technology and a good understanding of how it can be leveraged to enhance both teaching and learning Skilled in using a wide range of data about student learning to inform decision-making and support strategic planning Awareness of current issues and trends in education and the ability to lead institutional thinking and high-quality professional learning Understanding of the principles of organisational culture and behaviour, including skills of affective leadership approaches and problem solving Qualifications Relevant teaching qualifications, Working With Children Check (WWCC) and current NESA accreditation (or capacity to gain accreditation with NESA) Experience Demonstrated experience in curriculum leadership and knowledge of IB Programmes is essentialDemonstrated ability to lead and develop high achieving staff and students Experience in managing, training, coaching and mentoring staff in a multi-disciplinary environment. Terms and appointment The successful applicant will commence at the beginning of Term 3, 2025 or as negotiated. The successful applicant will work concurrently with our current Deputy Principal – Head of Senior School through Terms 3 and 4 to support a smooth and seamless transition. The remuneration package is attractive and will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The successful applicant will have a small teaching load. There will be a regular appraisal of performance based on agreed criteria.
