Time Remaining 28 days Deputy Principal - Early Years Branch: Derby District High School Division: Kimberley Education Region Salary: Level 3, $125,850 - $137,715 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2021) This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 Derby District High School is located in Derby which is situated at the southern end of King Sound in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Derby is 220km east of Broome by road and is 2463km north of Perth. It was the first town settled in the Kimberley. Derby is well supported with a range of government infrastructures. Its location near the King Sound and a number of rivers provides for many boating and fishing recreational activities - but not swimming! Derby District High School is located in attractive and well-maintained grounds and surroundings. With an enrolment of over 600 students, it provides an education program for students from Zero to Year 12. Students attend the school from the town of Derby and outlying areas including the Aboriginal Communities of Mowanjum and Pandanus Park. The school has a very successful Early Years program commencing with KindiLink, which is focused on parents and their children from 0-3 years old at two offsite locations. On site we have two Kindergarten classes that run four days a week and a purpose built Early Years centre for our Pre-Primary and Year 1 students. The successful applicant will ideally manage and lead Early Years staff and students by providing instructional and curriculum leadership under the direction of the principal. In collaboration with the principal and members of the Executive Team, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and establishing strong relationships with students, staff, and the community. The successful applicant would ideally possess a strong understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework, as well as knowledge of explicit instruction and play based learning to ensure a balanced curriculum delivery. The school is part of the Kimberley School's Project and supports staff to implement a targeted teaching approach, including Daily Reviews, Let's Decode and Heggerty. An understanding of and commitment to school operations, behaviour education and pastoral care is also important to our Derby context. The successful applicant should ideally have outstanding communication and organisational skills; resilience and the ability to lead staff to effectively implement the West Australian Curriculum. They should also have experience in embedding whole-school approaches, coordinating and initiating strategies for supporting students at Educational Risk; and engaging staff, parents and students with the National Quality Standards.
