Position Information Billabong High School is a rural comprehensive high school located in the Greater Hume Shire between Albury and Wagga Wagga.
The student population is approximately 350 students with a teaching staff allocation in 2024 of 37.4.
The school is situated on Wiradjuri land and eleven percent of the student population identify as having an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background.
Students travel from a number of local townships to attend Billabong High School and the school works in partnership with the community to seek high quality educational outcomes for all students.
Priorities include: pursuing excellence in line with the School Excellence Framework, driving literacy and numeracy growth, collaborative practice, and the development of an inclusive and positive school culture that promotes wellbeing for both students and staff alike.
As of 2024, the school is fully staffed and has a broad range of teachers at various career stages.
Higher accreditation is proactively sought, with a strong focus on continual improvement in teaching practice.
There is a supportive and collegial culture amongst staff and collective efficacy is a focus and priority.
The school has three multi-categorical classes including an integration support class and a structured teaching support class.
The school works in partnership with Aurora College.
A Learning and Wellbeing Hub was established in 2021 to provide targeted support across the school.
Students access the Wellbeing Hub to engage in activities aimed at improving wellbeing outcomes and school connections.
The Wellbeing Hub complements the earlier established Learning Hub where targeted support is provided to improve learning outcomes.
The school ensures students have access to a range of high-quality facilities for example, commercial-grade hospitality and industrial arts spaces, and sporting amenities.
The school has achieved academically across a number of pursuits including the completion of further studies at tertiary institutions.
Billabong High School students also enjoy high levels of employability and are actively sought by local businesses and employers.
The school competes in the full range of sporting pursuits and has experienced significant success including winning several state championships and fielding numerous Riverina, state and national representatives.
A highly accomplished agriculture program has consistently provided a career pathway for students, and the school's Show Team has achieved ongoing accolades including winning major awards at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Students engage in numerous extracurricular activities including debating and public speaking competitions, and in the performing and creative arts.
The school also encourages the development of good citizenship and therefore provides opportunities for volunteering, refereeing and umpiring at primary school sporting events as well as participation in local community events such as Australia Day and Anzac Day ceremonies.
Selection Criteria In addition to the general selection criteria,
Outstanding communication, prioritisation, management and organisational skills to effectively lead the complex day to day operations of the school and capacity to plan, develop and implement quality organisational structures and processes. Ability to provide expertise and leadership in supporting the wellbeing of all students including with the demonstrated capacity to lead whole school wellbeing-focused initiatives. A highly visible and approachable leader with exemplary interpersonal skills and the proven capacity to work collaboratively to form positive, productive relationships with staff, parents, community members and external agencies so that the educational and wellbeing outcomes of all students are prioritised. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of the executive team to drive continuous improvement, professionally develop teachers and strategically lead the school towards excellence. General Selection Criteria Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
