If you thrive in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments, have a keen understanding of public affairs, and relish the contest of ideas, this is your chance to help set the agenda at the nation's premier business newspaper.
In this role, you will work closely with theOpinionEditor, Editor-in-Chief, and Editor to curate the dailyopinionlineup and shape editorial stances, ensuring that our 'op-ed' section provides timely and relevant commentary on major public debates.
You will also liaise across the newsroom to integrateopinioncontent into the AFR's daily coverage and drive engagement.
AsDeputyOpinionEditor, you will play a key role in managing theopinionsection, commissioning and editing commentary pieces from a diverse range of external contributors and columnists for both digital and print publication.
In your capacity asLeader Writer, you will craft insightful and compelling editorials, articulating clear, informed arguments that reflect the AFR's position on critical business, politics, markets, and public policy issues.
You will also share responsibility for producing the weekly subscriber-onlyOpinionNewsletter.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess:
A background in political and/or policy-related fieldsWorking knowledge of major national and international economic trends and challengesExceptional editing and writing skills, attention to detail, and high journalistic standardsThe ability to produce high-quality, well-argued, accessible, and engaging editorials on tight deadlines.We highly value a strong news sense and the skills to step up to theOpinionEditor role, as needed.
Some Sunday work may be required.
