The APVMA is seeking applications for a Deputy General Counsel, to work in the APVMA's legal services team which oversees all legal aspects of the APVMA's regulatory, administrative, and corporate functions.
Located in either Canberra ACT or regional Armidale NSW, the successful candidate will gain valuable experience in a senior legal role within the Australian Public Service, have access to a variety of flexible working arrangements, and work in a fast-paced and challenging work environment.
The role provides generous pay and conditions at the EL2 level, plus 15.4% superannuation.

The Role Under broad direction of the General Counsel, the Deputy General Counsel helps manage the Office of General Counsel, which is responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of the APVMA's regulatory, administrative and corporate functions, and assists the business with identifying and mitigating legal risks.
The Deputy General Counsel will deliver effective and succinct legal advice and related services in relation to legal and regulatory matters across different parts of the business, ensuring each matter is managed strategically and efficiently, risks are mitigated, and the desired outcome is achieved.
The Deputy General Counsel will also engage with key external stakeholders on legal matters, as appropriate.
Working at the EL2 classification, the Deputy General Counsel will work with a high degree of independence and will support the General Counsel in establishing priorities, practices and methodologies to deliver quality legal outcomes for the APVMA.
To be a strong contender for the role, you will have: Demonstrated ability to provide high quality legal advice in a complex and sensitive environment with a strong focus on client service.
Excellent people and negotiation skills and highly developed communication skills.
Extensive knowledge of and compliance with legislative frameworks, public administration, government decision-making and agency guidelines and regulations.
Highly developed ability to work as part of a team.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and manage complex issues.
A high level of integrity and discretion and a willingness to abide by the APS Code of Conduct.
Extensive experience in administrative law, commercial law and enforcement ideally in a Commonwealth context is desirable.
