About the Opportunity
Applications are invited from ACPSEM certified/accredited physicists for a temporary Deputy Director position within the Radiation Oncology Department at SWSLHD Cancer Services, providing cover during an extended period of Long Service Leave.
The Medical Physics department of SWSLHD Cancer Services has an active group of 16 Medical Physics Specialists & 3 physics registrars working across two radiotherapy centres, and links to the Medical Physics team at the Ingham Institute and its affiliated universities.
The successful applicant will be responsible for management of the day-to-day activities of the physics team based at MCTC, and is expected to take a leadership role across a full range of clinical activities in a busy and progressive radiation oncology service.
The department has established VMAT and SBRT programs which continue to expand and adopt the latest technology, and physics are integrated into multi-disciplinary treatment site groups which manage and implement changes in clinical practice.
As part of the medical physics team you will be supported to contribute to technological innovation and translational research.
There is opportunity to engage with the research activities of the Ingham Medical Physics team which is comprised of a number of full-time staff and students.
Clinical and research themes in the Cancer Service & at Ingham are diverse, but the key focus over the next few years will be aligned with:
Imaging in radiotherapy including use of advanced MRI and the Australian MRI Linac Accessing and learning from data including machine learning, federated learning and image analysis Advanced clinical development including adaptive radiotherapy, MRI-only planning and motion tracking Your application must address the selection criteria and should include three relevant referees, one of whom should be your current supervisor.
Please note:
- Due to the limited term of this position, there will not be sufficient time to undertake lengthy onboarding processes, so only those with ACPSEM certification or who are already on the ACPSEM register, and with a current Australian work visa, will be considered for the position.
- Per the NSW Award for Medical Physicists, only those who have already been through the NSW Progression to Senior grade can be offered the position as a Senior MPS.
Candidates without a personal regrade may still apply but if successful would only be offered the position at the MPS grade.

Provide management and scientific support for patient treatment and clinical radiotherapy equipment maintenance, including treatment planning, radiation safety, radiation dosimetry, and research and development.

This position will be located at Macarthur Cancer Therapy Centre (MCTC) at Campbelltown Hospital.
Campbelltown Hospital is a teaching hospital and a tertiary referral hospital that serves Sydney South West.

LCTC opened there in 1995 and is equipped with:
3 Elekta Linear Accelerators with Agility MLCs, kV cone beam imaging & ABC units, and 6DOF Hexapod couch, and one with ExacTrac Dynamic Tomotherapy Hi-Art Linear Accelerator X-Strahl Ortho voltage Unit Nucletron HDR brachytherapy Unit Philips Brilliance Big Bore and Siemens go.Open Pro CT Scanners Dedicated 3T MRI Scanner RayStation TPS Additional dosimetry equipment and software tools How to Apply

A Bachelors degrees in physics, medical physics or equivalent discipline from a tertiary institution in Australia or equivalent from overseas (see Essential Requirements).
A postgraduate degree in physics, medical physics or equivalent discipline from a tertiary institution in Australia or equivalent from overseas (see Essential Requirements).
Certification in Radiation Oncology Medical Physics or Radiotherapy Equipment Commissioning and Quality Assurance from the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM), or placement on the ACPSEM Radiation Oncology Register.
International candidates eligible for registration by the ACPSEM may also apply.
Demonstrated effective leadership skills and management experience.
Extensive experience in radiation oncology physics and a demonstrated ability to achieve high standards of professional practice, along with evidence of a track record in commissioning radiotherapy equipment and/or implementation of new technologies.
Evidence of initiative and ability to prioritise amongst competing service requirements, and willing to work flexible work hours (early or late) at times, as required.
Evidence of oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively both in a multi-disciplinary team as well as independently.
