Rural Clinical SchoolPart-time (50%), fixed-term position through to 31st December 2026Base salary will be in the range $162,046 - $178,367 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level D)Based at our Toowoomba HospitalAbout This OpportunityThis is an exciting opportunity to provide academic leadership for the implementation of the MD Program and the Regional Training Hub (RTH) activities within the Downs-South West Medical Pathway (DDSW MP).The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of four key partners in the DDSW MP, alongside the University of Southern Queensland, Darling Downs Health, and the South West Hospital and Health Service. This position is integral to the success of the DDSW MP.In 2023, the UQ Medical School introduced eight geographically based Learning Communities, three of which are part of the Rural Clinical School. One of these, the Darling Downs-South West Learning Community, is aligned with the DDSW MP. These Learning Communities provide an academic home for students, academics, clinical teachers, and professional staff, where students are supported to grow as medical professionals throughout the MD program.The University of Queensland also operates three Regional Training Hubs (RTH), designed to support medical students and prevocational doctors interested in rural and regional medicine, guiding them to become specialists in rural and regional communities. One of these hubs, RTH Southern Queensland, aligns with the footprint of the DDSW MP. The other two Hubs are in Central Queensland and the Wide Bay.Key responsibilities will include:Teaching: Contribute to face-to-face clinical teaching, relevant to clinical expertise, to support the development of professional identity, as well as clinical knowledge and skills. Contribute to quality assurance and improvement activities. Contribute to the development and provision of supervisor training and support for both hospital and community based clinical supervisors.Research: Maintain personal academic standing including the pursuit of research and scholarship. Contribute to building of the Medical Pathway's research capacity by enabling and engaging in collaborative research projects between UQ academics, health service clinicians and other partners.Supervision and Researcher Development: Foster others in the responsible conduct of research.Citizenship and Service: Provide the academic leadership and oversight of the implementation and the ongoing provision of the End-to-End DDSW Medical Pathway (MP), from student recruitment to fellowship training. Facilitate close working relationships with DDH and SWHHS to support and grow prevocational and/or vocational training pathways within their hospitals. Facilitate close working relationships with CQUni leadership and academic teams. Promote and foster interest in rural medical careers for medical students and junior doctors.This is a teaching focused position.
