Rural Clinical School Part-time (60%), fixed-term position through to 31st December 2026
Base salary will be in the range $162,046 - $178,367 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level D)
Based at our Rockhampton Hospital
About This Opportunity We are excited to offer an opportunity for an academic leader to oversee the implementation and delivery of the MD Program and Central Queensland Regional Training Hub activities as part of the Central Queensland – Wide Bay Regional Medical Pathway (CQWB RMP).
The University of Queensland is a key partner in the CQWB RMP, collaborating with Central Queensland University, Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service, and the Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.
This position is based within the CQWB RMP, which is designed to support medical education and training across the region.
In 2023, the UQ Medical School established eight geographically based Learning Communities, three of which are within the Rural Clinical School (RCS).
Two of these, the Central Queensland and Wide Bay Learning Communities, align with the CQWB RMP.
These communities provide an academic home for students, academics, clinical teachers, and professional staff, where students are supported to grow as medical professionals throughout the MD program.
The University of Queensland operates three Regional Training Hubs (RTH), designed to support medical students and prevocational doctors pursuing careers in rural and regional medicine.
Two of these hubs—RTH CQ and RTH WB—are directly aligned with the CQWB RMP, contributing to the development of rural and regional healthcare professionals.
Key responsibilities will include: Teaching: Contribute to face-to-face clinical teaching, relevant to clinical expertise, to support the development of professional identity, as well as clinical knowledge and skills.
Contribute to quality assurance and improvement activities.
Contribute to the development and provision of supervisor training and support for both hospital and community based clinical supervisors.
Research/Teaching Impact: Maintain personal academic standing including the pursuit of research and scholarship.
Contribute to building of the Medical Pathway's research capacity by enabling and engaging in collaborative research projects between UQ academics, health service clinicians and other partners.
Supervision and Researcher Development: Foster others in the responsible conduct of research.
Citizenship and Service: Provide the academic leadership and oversight of the implementation and the ongoing provision of the End-to-end CQWB Regional Medical Pathway from student recruitment to fellowship training.
Facilitate close working relationships with CQHHS to support and grow prevocational and/or vocational training pathways within their hospitals.
Promote and foster interest in rural medical careers for medical students and junior doctors.
This is a teaching focused position.

About You Essential Medical qualification and a non-GP Specialist or General Practice Specialist qualification, with eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, with AHPRA.
Masters or PhD, or equivalent experience, preferably in medical education or medical leadership.
Expert knowledge and experience in a general or specialist clinical capacity, including evidence of knowledge of current education best practice.
Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and/or professional level, in a range of settings including small and large groups.
Experience in successfully undertaking or facilitating research or scholarship of teaching and learning.
Demonstrated ability to engage effectively in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, establish effective relationships, and to manage disparate interests in complex environments.
High level communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, colleagues and the relevant external partners.
A commitment to and an understanding of the issues surrounding, living and working in a rural and/or regional area.
Desirable A record of peer reviewed publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences, in conjunction with evidence of contribution towards successful applications for external research funding.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including right to work in Australia, education check, AHPRA registration, mandatory immunisations.
