Join the first ever Indigenous-led ARC Centre of Excellence Contribute to transforming the lives of Indigenous Australians Identified (s25) position for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples only Continuing underlying position may be offered, subject to negotiation and approval Co-located across our Toowong site and St Lucia campus About UQ What started as Queensland's first university in 1909, with just three faculties and 83 students, has grown into university ranked in the world's top 50 that is renowned for being a leader in teaching and research. Even after 100 years of history and excellence, we haven't forgotten that UQ was founded by - and for - the people of Queensland. In 2022, we launched the Queensland commitment as part of our belief that education and opportunity should be available for all Queenslanders by breaking down personal, financial and geographical barriers. It's this commitment that re-emphasises that UQ is a place for everybody: no matter who you are, where you're from, or what challenges you've faced, you can pursue your ambitions at UQ.
About This Opportunity The ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures will transform and improve the lives of Indigenous Australians by utilising Indigenous knowledges to enhance our understanding of the complex nature of intergenerational social inequity. The Centre's work will span across three key research themes: Law and Justice; Education and Economics; and Health and Wellbeing.
The CoE Deputy Director will be an academic leader with the responsibility of executing the strategic research direction of the Centre, in collaboration with the Director and the Centre Directorate, ensuring the Centre's research excellence.
Alongside the Centre Executive Committee, you will help establish and champion the Centre as a global leader in Indigenous social inequality research, provide research leadership within the three themes, and coordinate the strategic advancement of the Centre by identifying and applying for new major funding opportunities.
Additionally, you will also support the development of new initiatives and help manage ongoing relationships with key partners and stakeholders including government agencies, funding bodies and Indigenous community partners.
Indigenous researchers across Academic Levels C, D and E, with expertise in research contributing to Indigenous aspirations, development and positive change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, are encouraged to apply.
Employment Type and Remuneration This position is a full-time fixed term position for five (5) years at Academic level C, D or E. Subject to the relevant approvals, a continuing underlying appointment may be negotiated with the successful candidate.
At Academic Level C , the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $132,201 - $152,202, plus super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676 - $178,076 annually.
At Academic Level D , the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $158,869 - $174,870, plus super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $185,876 - $204,598 annually.
At Academic Level E , the full time equivalent base salary will be $204,204, plus super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be $238,919.
About You Alongside a PhD and demonstrated expert knowledge in one of the three research streams, the successful candidate will have significant experience in leading the development of research programs relating to Indigenous social inequality and, ideally, will have administrative and managerial leadership experience.
To enable the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures to realise its vision, we're searching for a collaborative individual with excellent research leadership and supervisory skills, who has successful experience and outcomes in research underpinned by Indigenous methodologies.
As this Centre will be working with a range of community partners across Australia and internationally, from the Australian Human Rights Commission through to grassroots Indigenous organisations, highly developed interpersonal skills will be required to pivot your approach as required. As such, your knowledge of the critical issues relevant to the diverse circumstances of Indigenous people, as well as your experience in connecting with diverse communities will be key to your success in this role.
Candidates who do not meet all the selection criteria are still strongly encouraged to apply.
The University of Queensland considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991(Qld). The position is therefore only open to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence to confirm that they are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
