Position Title: Deputy Director Of Nursing Surgery and Anaesthetics – Westmead Hospital Location: Westmead Classification: Nurse Manager Grade 6 Employment Status: Permanent Full Time Enquiries: Carmen Morgan on ****** Closing Date: 22nd September 2024 Lead nursing operations for Surgery and Anaesthetics, ensuring high-quality care, resource efficiency, and service improvement at Westmead Hospital.
Purpose of position: As the key operational Nurse Manager for the Surgery and Anaesthetics services, the Westmead Hospital Deputy Director of Nursing, Surgery and Anaesthetics is responsible for this service area leadership of nursing/midwifery functions.
Ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care and efficient use of resources are clear expectations of the role.
In addition, the position has responsibility for clinical issues that may impact on operational and financial outcomes for the area of responsibility, within a risk management framework.
The position has a focus on clinical and administrative service improvement, cultural cohesiveness through clinical support, development of strong nursing leadership, and sound analytical, planning and negotiation that achieves positive patient outcomes, sustainable patient access and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary environment.
The Deputy Director of Nursing, Surgery and Anaesthetics is required to contribute to the strategic direction of the relevant service area as well as the broader facility's nursing and midwifery priorities.
All staff within the service area are expected to act as appropriate and effective role models, promoting a culture that supports practices reflective of the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviors and interactions with patients, clients and employees.
Essential Criteria: Registration in line with Award requirements: Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Selection Criteria: Extensive recent management experience with experience in leading staff and managing services in the relevant setting, supported by a relevant tertiary management qualification and/or work experience.
Proven ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team and to represent the nursing/midwifery service and organisation at a local level.
Proven experience in managing key priorities and delivering successful strategies relating to service outcomes, KPI's, and Westmead Hospital Nursing and Midwifery vision and goals.
Demonstrated experience in the application of change management within a tertiary health care environment, with an ability to function as part of a senior management team, working cohesively with other disciplines to manage complex health services.
Highly developed ability to think critically, set goals, formulate plans and policies to achieve identified outcomes.
Evidence of experience in financial management and the ability to support financial strategies of the facility relating to the service areas.
