Duties Lead, motivate, inspire and mentor the teams across multiple sites that represent, care for, develop and undertake research on TMAG's collections. Lead development and implementation of a dynamic and ambitious Research and Collections Strategy that aligns with TMAG's priorities and transforms scholarship into tangible onsite and online benefits for TMAG, the community, visitors, government and for the wider research sector. Build strong effective relationships and strategic partnerships with staff, external stakeholders and clients at all levels and across boundaries. Regularly review workforce plans an undertake succession planning to balance the ongoing development of staff with the current and future requirements for TMAG. Manage the totality of collection management resources available to the Museum, including collections and conservation budgets for all TMAG's collections – in Hobart and around Tasmania. Ensure appropriate processes and resources are in place to safeguard and care for the collection. Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of Best Practice strategies, policies, procedures and standards for the provision of responsive, cost-effective, high quality collections management and access services which facilitate the achievement of TMAG's strategic objectives. Lead change initiatives across the research and collections team and across TMAG more broadly. Provide organisational leadership in the digital environment and drive innovation to support collections digitisation, resource description and information access services, applying relevant national and international directions, trends, strategies and standards and emerging technology opportunities in the research, collections and museum/ art gallery context. Manage risk, coordinate incident responses, review policies and procedures to meet external regulations including anticipate and successfully resolve complex technical, management and administrative issues, which have potential for impact at a strategic level. Essential Requirements A current driver's licence. Desirable Requirements Demonstrated awareness of the role museums and/or art galleries as research, interpretative, educational, and curatorial institutions. Some work outside of normal hours will be required. Some interstate travel involving overnight absences will be required.
