This opportunity is offered in accordance with section 31of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 and therefore female candidates are highly encouraged to apply.About the opportunity The role of the Deputy Chief Plant Biosecurity Officer (Surveillance and Control) entails being a pivotal member of the senior leadership team in Biosecurity, WA's plant industries against biosecurity threats. Your responsibilities include leading targeted and general surveillance efforts for priority plant pests and diseases, spearheading plant biosecurity emergency responses, and overseeing the development and maintenance of crucial plant health surveillance plans and response protocols. Collaborating nationally, the role contributes to achieving effective state and national plant health outcomes, thereby facilitating access to markets for WA's plant industries. This position requires a high level of professionalism, independence, and judgement, with direct involvement in shaping state and national plant health surveillance policies and strategies. Additionally, you will provide strategic counsel on policies impacting the growth and competitiveness of WA's plant industries, along with operational guidance to enhance plant biosecurity surveillance and control programs.
We currently have one (1), eighteen-month fixed-term position available for immediate filling.
We are looking for individuals with:
A degree in Agricultural Science or approved equivalent.Demonstrated ability to prepare for, plan and lead biosecurity emergency responses.Exceptional leadership and management skills with the ability to negotiate with, motivate and influence others.For further information and special requirements for this role please see attached Job Description Form (JDF).

Employment Conditions and Additional Information DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
