The Deputy Associate is part of a small team who assist the Judge in the day-to-day management of Chambers and Court.
The role of the Deputy Associate is to assist the Associate and deputise for them when they are on leave.
This role also assists with the preparation of Court materials for the judge and involves undertaking legal research and assisting with judgment preparation as required.
Key Responsibilities and DutiesThe Deputy Associate works closely with the Associate.
The role of the Deputy Associate includes, but is not limited to:
Undertaking complex legal research, writing and proof reading as required.Attending court, including providing administrative assistance in the court room.Assisting the Associate in the day-to-day management of chambers (including the preparation of correspondence, liaising with practitioners and court staff, using the Court's case management system and assisting with docket management).Managing chambers in the absence of the Associate.Preparing Court Orders.Attending to other duties as required.Selection CriteriaThe Deputy Associate should meet the following criteria:
Completed or have made substantial progress towards an LLB or JD or graduate with a credit plus average.
Candidates should provide copies of all academic transcripts with their application.Demonstrated ability to undertake legal research and legal writing.Strong oral and written communication skills and an ability to communicate with people at all levels.Demonstrated organisational skills, including the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure in a team environment.The ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities and participate in collective work practices.Demonstrated high-level keyboard skills and ability to use relevant software applications including Microsoft Office applications and the Internet.A high standard of ethical behaviour, tolerance, diligence and the ability to work as a member of a small team.EligibilityEmployment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:
