As a Principal Human Resources Advisor, you will be part of a team of passionate HR professionals in the Case Management Unit working in partnership with a range of business partners across TMR to provide specialist strategic advice & support in the management of complex case management matters within the Queensland Government legislative landscape.
In this pivotal role, you will offer guidance, leadership, and support to senior management & clients on a diverse range of workforce relations issues. You will lead a specialist team, working with minimal supervision to ensure the effective resolution of complex case management matters.

The Principal Advisor (Employee Relations) is responsible for the provision of authoritative advice, leadership and support to senior management and clients of the Department on workforce relations issues. You will work with limited supervision and lead a small, specialist team.
Accountabilities include: Provide expert advice and consultancy services to executives, senior managers and clients on workforce relations issues with an emphasis on the management of complex employee cases. Lead and manage investigations and reviews into a range of complex and sensitive employee relations issues and develop, negotiate and implement appropriate strategies for timely resolution. Provide strategic policy and support advice to clients on disciplinary procedures and processes including dismissals, grievances, management of employee under-performance, absenteeism management and Code of Conduct. Undertake a leadership role to ensure managers and HR specialists across the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) are developed and trained in relation to the management and handling of case management and workforce relations issues. Represent the department at high level negotiations relating to workforce relations issues including advocacy services at the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and the Public Service Commission. Prepare correspondence, including briefing materials and reports, for the Minister, Director-General, the Executive Leadership Team and other senior staff on issues as they pertain to workforce relations. Lead and oversee project teams in the development, implementation and reporting of initiatives, programs, policies and targeted plans which relate to workforce relations. Develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to gain support and influence HR outcomes for the Division. Undertake ongoing research and analysis of contemporary human resource practices and policies occurring at a whole of government level with a specific focus on workforce relations. Manage all employees reporting to this position by developing staff to their full potential, monitoring staff performance and providing ongoing feedback and development opportunities. Provide leadership and model exemplary conduct for the branch and other departmental employees together with continuously seeking ways to improve operations. Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
