Office of Water Security
Full time, fixed vacancy to 30/06/2026
Location: Darwin or Alice Springs, Northern Territory
Selection will be made at the AO6 or AO7 level depending on the experience/qualifications of the successful applicant.
This vacancy may be available in either Alice Springs or Darwin subject to negotiation with the successful applicant.

The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment (DLPE) aims to manage the Northern Territory's natural assets sustainably.
Its purpose is to provide evidence-based advice and regulation to support the sustainable use of the Northern Territory's natural resources, and protect and preserve its wildlife, parks, and reserves.

The Office of Water Security (OWS) is a strategic policy team that advises the Minister for Water Resources, coordinates whole of Government water policy and programs, and collaborates with other Government agencies to develop, deliver, and report on the Territory Water Plan.

Currently, the OWS has a vacancy for a Project Officer (AO6) or a Senior Project Officer (AO7) in either its Darwin or Alice Springs office.
Your application will be assessed at both levels, and if successful, an offer of employment will be made at the most suitable level and to your preferred location.

As a Project Officer (AO6), your primary objective is to provide engagement, coordination, and project management support to the Office of Water Security in leading the implementation of the Territory Water Plan and other strategic water policy reform projects and activities.

As a Senior Project Officer (AO7), the primary objective is the same, but you will also include leadership and the ability to manage more complex matters.

The key duties and responsibilities for both roles include:
Undertaking research and developing engagement options for water security outcomes.
Contributing to the development and implementation of cross-agency research and policy projects.
Coordinating stakeholder engagement activities and developing collaborative partnerships.
Contributing to the preparation of a range of project materials, including Ministerial briefings, Cabinet submissions, and communication materials.
To be successful, you require demonstrated experience in project management and research, supported by well-developed strategic thinking and high-level analytical, coordination, and organizational skills.

Advanced communication skills, both written and oral, along with the ability to manage conflicting deadlines and influence outcomes, are essential.
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline would be well received.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to improving water security for remote communities and provide coordination, executive, and secretariat support to the Remote Water Team in the delivery of water forums.

In return, you'll receive a competitive remuneration package, inclusive of 11.5% superannuation, 6 weeks' recreational leave, and 3 weeks' personal leave, along with a 17.5% annual leave allowance and additional paid leave to cover the Christmas – New Year's shut-down.
Flexible work agreements, study support, and career development opportunities may also be available.
Relocation and travel assistance may also be available to the successful candidates.

By selecting either Darwin or Alice Springs, you will experience the uniqueness of living and working in the Territory and enjoy a work-life balance that allows you time to explore the surrounding landscapes, colorful tropical sunsets, spectacular lightning displays, and a rich cultural society and community.

Applications should consist of a one-page summary sheet, resume/CV, and copies of relevant qualifications.
