Details of Appointment Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies on a permanent or fixed term basis. Hours per fortnight 73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.
Duties To act as Solicitor and Counsel in routine, complex and critical civil matters and appeals on behalf of the State of Tasmania, its instrumentalities and Agencies before a range of courts and tribunals, with a particular emphasis on claims made by those who, as children, were the subject of abuse whilst in care. To provide comprehensive, accurate and timely advice to the State and its Agencies in respect of civil law matters. To provide professional supervision, direction and instruction as may be required to junior legal practitioners in the Abuse in Care team. To participate in performance management and file reviews as directed by the State Litigator. Admitted or eligible for admission as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania. Current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Registration Status - Employment). Pre-employment Checks The Head of State Service has determined that the person nominated for this vacancy is to satisfy a pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, promotion or transfer.
The following checks are to be conducted:
Arson and fire setting Violent crimes and crimes against the person Sex-related offences Drug and alcohol related offences Crimes involving dishonesty Crimes involving deception Making false declarations Malicious damage and destruction to property Serious traffic offences Crimes against public order or relating to the Administration of Law and Justice Crimes against Executive or the Legislative Power Crimes involving Conspiracy 2. Disciplinary action in previous employment.

A minimum of seven years relevant experience. Drivers licence.
