The Victim Coordination Officer is responsible for building capacity in government and non-government organisations to enhance support of victims, through networking, provision of information and training. Further, where no other services are available, provide support to victims of crime with complex and high needs, referrals to support services and assistance in completing financial assistance applications.
Reports to: Team Leader, Victim Services
Direct reports: 0
Collaborates with: Managers across the department, various government and non-government organisations within the victim support sector.
Key responsibilities: Build capacity in government and non-government organisations to enhance support of victims, through networking, provision of information and training. Promote the Charter of Victims' Rights, contained within the Victims of Crime Assistance Act 2009, to relevant government and non-government agencies. Build the capacity of local agencies to provide support for victims including the provision of information regarding the criminal justice process and practical in-court support. Refer victims of crime (including those with complex and high support needs) to appropriate counselling and specialist government and non-government support services. Where other agency support is not available for clients with complex and high support needs, provide direct service delivery. Triage and assist clients with complex and high support needs, provide direct service delivery including the provision of information regarding the criminal justice process, help to write victim impact statements and to apply for financial assistance. Participate in local area initiatives to develop or support victim services. Identify and report on systemic and individual issues relating to victims of crime within the criminal justice system. Contribute to a high performing team by collaborating with others, displaying motivation, sharing, and encouraging innovative ideas. Applications to remain current for 12 months.
