The Customs and Trade Compliance Branch supports the Australian Government's and the Australian Border Force's commitment to working in partnership with Australian industry to foster and facilitate trade, strengthen supply chain security, and detect illegal trade activity.
The Customs and Trade Compliance Branch: Leads and delivers national trade compliance efforts, and supports ABF and Home Affairs facilitation on trade.Develops and administers a framework of trust with trade industry partners, through education, compliance, and regulatory support.Supports streamlined ABF engagement with industry on operational matters.The Branch: Administers the Australian Trusted Trader program, which accredits importers, exporters and service providers that have demonstrated supply chain security and trade-compliant practices.Licenses depot and warehouse operators (including duty free operators) and customs brokers.Identifies and collects revenue shortfalls and addresses non-compliance with Customs and other legislation, including by encouraging voluntary compliance.Supports Australian industry, including through the National Trade Advice Centre that provides rulings and reviews on tariffs, valuations, and broader classifications.Administers the Tourist Refund Scheme that allows travellers leaving Australia to claim a refund on Goods and Services Tax and Wine Equalisation Tax paid on goods they take offshore with them.About the Customs Licensing Role: The Customs Licensing Supervisor (APS6) leads a team of officers to achieve critical regulatory outcomes.
The Customs Licensing Supervisor is responsible for supervising the processing and monitoring the lodgement of licensing applications for Depots, Warehouses, Non-Licensed Establishments and Fit and Proper Person Checks.
The Supervisor creates and maintains strong working relationships with key stakeholders and is responsible for administration and records management associated with their operational responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities: Investigate referrals from other line areas on matters relating to supply chain integrity including Border Watch referrals.Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, providing advice and guidance on licensing matters.Provide timely and accurate advice to industry and undertake or assist in the preparation or presentation of information.Supervise and provide training on the lodgement of licensing applications.Make legislatively delegated decisions within strict timeframes for applications, and review outcomes of adverse findings on licensing applications for Fit and Proper Persons.Additional Information: Ability to interpret legislation and to make effective decisions according to legislative and policy parameters.Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to construct strong, defensible administrative decisions.Supervising and mentoring a team to build long term capability and deliver organisational objectives.Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to establish productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.How to Apply: Submit your application and CV through the Home Affairs' recruitment system (ourPeople) before the closing date on 15 / 01 / 2025 at 11 : 59pm (midnight) AEDT - Late applications will not be accepted.
