The Role
As the Director for Defence's new Strategic Market Management team, you will be responsible for redefining how Defence works with some of its most important providers. This will include some of the largest and most prominent professional services/consulting firms in the market.
You will lead a team who will implement an Account Management structure to oversee the work of these firms across Defence. This will see you liaise with both the firms and the market to shape their engagement with Defence and act as Defence's expert lead on the use of professional services, providing advice and support across the organisation.

The objective of Strategic Market Management is to make Defence not just the biggest but the best buyer and user of consulting firms in Government. We are here to work with the market and business areas across Defence to ensure Defence is getting the right support and engaging with the market as a single, coherent buyer of services.
We judge ourselves not on how much support Defence is using but whether it is always getting the best value for public money when it engages consulting firms.
Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will bring:
Experience in account management, procurement or commercial management disciplines; Knowledge of professional services or consulting markets; Knowledge and experience of Commonwealth procurement or experience in contracting to government; Highly developed stakeholder engagement and communication skills; High levels of integrity and a commitment to act in accordance with the APS and Defence Values and Behaviours; A track record of building effective relationships with diverse stakeholders; A passion and commitment for Defence's mission and outcomes; The resilience to deliver results in a complex, high-paced environment while managing multiple competing stakeholders and relationships.
