The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals.
These goals are to:
maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it protect the Antarctic environment understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance. The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands.
The People and Culture Branch supports our workforce and fosters a positive organisational culture. It is instrumental in leading the division's cultural transformation initiative. Through implementing our cultural change program, we are affecting substantial shifts in our operational approaches to ensure the safety and inclusivity of our workplaces for all employees. The branch places significant emphasis on providing comprehensive support for expeditioners, encompassing recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, medical and organisational psychological services, and offboarding. Additionally, the branch delivers essential divisional services spanning media, communication, risk management, and business continuity. The AAD remains steadfast in its commitment to cultivating a positive, inclusive culture that promotes diversity and equity.
Expeditioner Capability and Training Section
The primary objective of the Expeditioner Capability and Training Section is to ensure that expeditioners receive comprehensive training before their deployment to Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic. This entails implementing a dynamic and interdisciplinary training program that considers seasonal planning and integrates diverse technical, community-based, and governmental aspects, thereby contributing to a comprehensive capability framework for the Australian Antarctic Program.
The Job
General responsibilities of the role include:
Collect information/data from stakeholders and relevant personnel regarding ineffective or inefficient processes. Oversee all new procedures and organisational changes to ensure proper implementation. Collaborate with management to create and document new processes through process mapping for future use. Review processes on a timely basis to see whether they are effective. Create documentation that ensures processes are being appropriately followed throughout the team. What we are looking for
Knowledge and experience
Proven experience in business process analysis and improvement. Strong understanding of process mapping and performance metrics. Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing change initiatives. Knowledge of best practices and methodologies for process optimisation. Track record of successful process improvement projects and measurable impact on operational efficiency. Key Accountabilities:
Deliver comprehensive process evaluations and improvement recommendations. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams. Ensure process changes are aligned with business goals and drive measurable outcomes. Contribute to internal engagement and process mapping development within the Expeditioner Capability and Training Team. Skills and capabilities
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise effectively. Proficiency in process modelling tools and software. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
